Recommended parts for 4.44 installation

Hi all,
Looking to put 97 Leggy Outback (4.44) trans. in daughters 92. Thinking would want to change flex plate, front diff axle seals, trans TQ seal, drive shaft U-joints (by driveshaft specialist) rear diff seals...check tranny and engine mounts...what else should I plan to inspect/replace/lubricate?

I would check out the rear differential bushings. They usually rot out after many years of New England winters and will cause a clunking in the rear during hard turns if they are worn out.

Re: Recommended parts for 4.44 installation

trans filter (internal) and pan gasket. I would replace the rear diff axle seals but not mess with the pinion seal.

Also the front diff axle seals require the removal of the screw in backlash/preload adjusters which can throw things out of whack, which is not recommended for someone who is not familiar with them.

I would suggest replacing the cooler lines for the trans as well as all their clamps to be sure they do not give you any trouble in the future.

A small diameter seal spring(?) was hanging out of the front diff on one side...Could that spring be replaced without removing seal?

It looks to be a little large to be that seal BUT I wouldn't rule it out. Replace them both if you have to do one
