actually almost any subaru transmission from an EJ series engine will bolt on for the most part...

the sti6, the forester (sti RA5) the impreza auto, the legacy auto, the impreza manuals, the forester auto (4.44FD impreza trans)
theoretically but not tested, the phase 2 4eats with the gate style shifter instead of the up down, should work but would need entire new electronics, but witht hat it should work...

Trans Swap

Nomad, Thanks. Not being overly familiar with Subaru's, the transmissions you mention would be from any year, up to a specific year? I would assume the later the model year the better? Any one in particular better, or they are all the same? The 2nd phase/generation trannys - new wiring harness and ecm, would the harness from the donor interface with existing components, or would it require a degree in electrical engineering?

Again, thank you for your assistance.

well today i'm undergoing the working on the trans... this will be quite harrowing, deffinately the most advanced thing i've done w/ the car

as for the transmissions that will work... any year legacy and impreza until i believe 2002 is when they introduced the phase 2 transmissions...
the gearing in all of them is different from model to trim level etc... specifics can be found by VIN...

well i'm halfway done... kinda

i have the solenoid assy removed from the svx transmission and ready to go into the svx transmission

it wasn't nearly as bad as i expected... although i removed them w/o the trans attached to a car... a LOT more trans fluid was held in there than i thought would be.. the driveway is irreperably harmed...

i think i'm probably going to be on the road by next weekend
