looking to buy..

Looking at buying a 92 lsi from friend of a friend. Has 150,000 miles, been in the same family since new. Recent ecm and alternator replacemant. After visiting this sight for last couple of days,I need to find out if Trans has ever been replaced/rebuilt. I'd
call its condition as above average for miles. Few door dings, scratches but no rust. One other person has first dibs on it,but if they fall through, and I think they will,I can get it for $1500.00. Any feedback would be appreciated. I also have a Miata and spend time on that sight. Thanks.
P.S what kind of synthetic fluid for trans is o.k. and does it mix with standard fluid?

Welcome to the site. For $1500 you can't go wrong, even if you have to put a tranny in it. You should never mix syth and regular fluid, just get a ful syth flush if it needs it. Good luck and hopfully you can join us regularly.

I'd go for it. Sounds like a good deal to me. Mine had 101k on it and I bought it for $4500. I guess to some that might be a lot of money, but I think the car is worth it. And if that's the case, $1500 is a steal.

Welcome to the site. The price sounds good. If the body and interior is in good shape, that is a good price.

I would flush it by changing it again after a short time. The commercial flushes are fairly expensive.

The best thing that you could do for the transmission is to put in a filter and a cooler. Many have also added a temperature gague so you can tell if the fluid gets to hot and looses effectiveness.

Good luck with the car if you get it.

I just bought my SVX last Thursday. It has 160,000 on it and I paid $2300. It is in good condition for the miles too. A couple of chips and what I gather is the normal problems ie: visor problems, ashtray problems and the button on the console is broken but still works. I came on this site before I bought the car and read ALOT of posts. You guys are so helpful and I learned bunches! Thank you and thanks for letting me join your board.

yeap,

Those guys are right! I paid $2350 for my 160K '92 LSi a month ago and totally LOVE IT! Expect few rattles here and there and maybe some brake problems. At least that's what I had. For $1500 you are buying the ULTIMATE RIDE for the Buck. Otherwise you might as well settle for an '88 oldsmobile or something like that. People keep staring at my car all the time

Good Luck!

Thanks for replies. I've decided to buy it if it works out that way.
Certainly will let you know. More I think about it,the more I want it. I worked at a Sub Dealer from 92-95 so I have some knowledge of car.
