I press the accelorator down about 3/4+ and it starts to speed up then SNAP! power mode kicks in and I take off like lightning. I think it even surprised the SVX!

I adjusted my TPS some time ago so it takes less pedal to downshift and/or go into power mode. What I don't understand is why is it sometimes like a rocket and others it just accelerates nicely in power mode? I've NEVER had it perform like it did yesterday.

Any ideas?

Well, I've played with this Power Mode alot when driving. It seems that in the in the 55-60 mph range the accelerator is very sensitive to go into Power Mode, and that it doesn't even take the pedal being pressed to the floor. 60-65 mph seems to be that perfect power range that when the pedal is pressed the SVX seems to "take-off".

Another one is.... try taking your foot off the Accelerator pedal and slowing to the 15-20mph range (and while still rolling) STOMP on the gas to the floor.... this will also give you that "take-off" feeling....but only til about 40mph....then the "take-off" feeling dies off again.

So my idea is that there are certain ranges of the Power Mode that perform better, and produce more thrust. These power ranges make the SVX seem like it's incredibly fast, and if you time the 15-20mph range just right you'll find yourself peeling tires out of turns, and thats exciting!

boost mode

Yeah, I too have felt this on my '92. Most times we just accelerate normally, in "power" mode but sometimes...It REALLY does take off. And the faint odor of way rich exhuast accompanies it.

37 HP, no. But sometimes...WOW.
I think it has something to do with the GF's hand on my knee.

double pump the accelerator for a nice take-off. when you do that, it seems like the ECU says "OH! you wanna go fast, huh?!?!"

My suspicion is that it has nothing to do with engine performance and everything to do with AT behavior. I think that when stomping the gas pedal to get into power mode, besides letting the motor rev all the way to redline, the AT allows less slip in the TC. The reduced slip means that a greater percentage of power makes it to the wheels and is not turned into heat in the TC. The fact that it really stuffs you in the seat when you stomp the pedal at certain speeds is probably because you are hitting the meat of the powerband (eg about 4500 rpm) when the car goes into power mode.
