Question AT temp oil light on?

just a thought and a funny question.

i know our cars may have a little heat problem. this is what i read and learn. tranny tends to be over-heating. so we have the AT temp oil light on the dashboard. the function of the indicator light is when the AT fluid gets real hot then it will be on??? never heard and read b4. has anybody had the experience that the AT temp oil came on while driving? just wondering....

I have heard of someone, a long time ago, speaking of their AT Oil Temp light coming on. They said, that if it comes on, you may as well call your tranny "toast" because it comes on way too late to avoid damage. In other words, their take on the matter was: "replace the words "AT TEMP" with the words "YOU"RE SCREWED."

No one knows how hot it has to get to come on! We think it might be over 300F.

John - I believe that s correct. I don't have the manual handy (it's down in the car in the garage) but I do remember the manual saying that it comes on at 300 or 325 degrees. It is interesting that the manual doesn't treat this as serious!! It only says to take it easy for a while.
