Can't get sunroof to close
I've been having some trouble with my sunroof as of late. From the closed position (a position which it has not experienced lately), the sunroof opens normally, and at normal speeds to the halfway point and to the full back position. When I try and close the sunroof, it moves extremely slow, if at all. I have to give it a helping hand (and use a pretty decent amount of force) to get it to close to the halfway point. It is as though the motor is really having to fight to move it, or the motor isn't getting enough power during the return trip. From the halfway point forward it gets even harder. Even with me applying forward pressure it takes about 15-20 seconds to get it forward to the tilted up position, and that is the furthest it goes. I can hear power getting to the motor, but it won't turn, and the roof won't tilt down.
I have tried manually cranking the sunroof, but it won't budge once it reaches the tilted position. I can't move the allen wrench at all, even with pretty extreme force. Luckily for me the rain seems to stay out pretty well, but it is getting cold and I am worried that if I don't get it closed soon I may have to deal with snow, and I know that won't stay out like the rain. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. My primary concern is how to get the sunroof closed. I can wait until spring to figure out how to get it functioning again properly since I have no desire to have it open during the winter months. My knowledge of cars (esp the svx) is somewhat lacking, so any level of detail would be greatly appreciated. A quick thanks to everyone who actively posts in these forums. I have found numerous solutions to past problems with my svx due to the forums. Your help and dedication to getting answers out to us is most appreciated. |

Re: Can't get sunroof to close
I hope this will help. First I would open it all of the way up. Clean the track, because it probably has some very still grease and that may make it hareder to close. Once clean, use some silicone spray on the track and then try it. If that doesn't fix the pobably, You may need to tighten the clutch. I don't think that is the problem because you say that you can't close it manualy. I would lubricate the track and it should help if not fix the problem. If it doesn't, post here again and we will go the next step. Good luck.

Re: Can't get sunroof to close
I dunno if it will help you but mine gets stuck too. To "fix" it, when it stops moving or gets real slow I stop then with one hand push the moving part up some, then let it back down. Once thats done you can proceed to continue to open/close it.

Re: Can't get sunroof to close
Sorry for the delay in posting a response...started a new job and have been putting in excess of 80 hours a week trying to get up to speed for the busy holiday season.
I opened the sunroof all the way, cleaned the tracks with extreme prejudice (probably the cleanest sunroof tracks known to man), lubricated them as you guys suggested, and I didn't notice any difference in the speed at which it was closing, nor did it slide into place but rather stopped in the tilted up position as before. I was able to get it closed with the help of my brother. We both noticed that the drivers side was moving a little ahead of the passenger side. When he applied some forward pressure to the passenger side (something I could not accomplish on my own while pressing the buttons) we were able to get it to go down. This is something I will look into come spring when the weather is more appropriate for open top car repairs. Thanks to all who offered advice. |

Re: Can't get sunroof to close
Mine has always needed help opening (vent position) and this summer needed some serious assistance closing (fully open), so I only put it on "vent" now, and don't slide it back.
Sometimes the easiest fix is to not risk having the problem again. ~M
