Location aside, a while ago in the thread the idea of camping was brought up, which in turn brought up the idea of "SVX optional".
While I agree with what Mitch said about these meets being all about the people (at the Dabob meet, like he said, we hardly ever looked at/took pictures of the cars, and we never even got the whole group of them together in one place)........ In my opinion a "big regional meet" should be set up to try to get as many SVXes together in one place as possible. Part of it is the challenge (and bragging rights) of seeing just how many of these rare cars we can manage to get in one particular region at once (friendly competition with the east coasters and their Reading meets). Another part of it is that the nature of a "big regional meet" is such that SVX drivers will come from farther distances than normal to attend the meet to be part of the event. Some of these owners may have never come to another meet up until this point, and part of the appeal of attending will be to see all the cars together, to see everyone else's car, etc. Basically, the cars are the icebreaker, especially to brand new folks, some of whom may not be very active even on these forums. So for those reasons, I do think we should encourage everyone to drive their SVX to the SVX meet (and of course those who do not yet own one, wish to fly in, etc are still welcome ). This may put a damper on the camping idea a little bit, for those that are not quite as good at "tetris-packing" their SVX , but I think we should stick with a hotel anyway. I don't mean to copy the Reading Meets, but hey, they are a good example of what works. I think the key is to have one main, "official hotel" that will be the headquarters of the meet. The parking lot will be the main gathering area for the cars, group photos, how to's, etc. The attached or nearby restaurant/banquet room will be the Saturday night group dinner. And the majority of the attendees will stay in rooms at that hotel. Of course we pick a reasonable place that everyone can afford (and if we do things right we'll get a discount block of rooms). Pick the hotel very early on, get the block reserved, and then get people to commit by reserving a room. That way they are committed in more ways than just putting their name on a internet list that means nothing in 9 months. That way they can put $ .25 in a jar every day from now until the meet date to pay for the hotel room if they are on a budget. That way everyone knows exactly what is going on far ahead of time, and the members from farther away will see the excitement building and they will commit too. Oh, and as for camping, it is a great idea, we in the Northwest have done it a couple times and it is a blast. It can certainly be done on a smaller scale with the individual regional groups getting together on their own. Thanks for reading my $ .03 if you got this far.

My SVXlessness is due to blown head gaskets which *fingers crossed* will hopefully be fixed by the time the next western meet rolls around Believe me, I don't like going ANYWHERE without my beloved MA5T3R, but unfortunately I don't have much choice right now.

I vote for Winnemuca, Nevada. They have it all, gambling, cheap drinks, small town atmosphere, and for the bachelors a red lite district. Well it beats wendover, I think.
