and a bit more...
Thanks to you Harry for getting our get-together organized. You put on a fine display of driving out there, and earned our car some new respect, I am sure. Those Cobra's were simply amazing! For that blue WRX to get as close to them in times as he did, was quite an effort also. Do you recall how the black Porsche Turbo did? I was guessing that he would have had about the 3rd quickest time. The most entertaining was that lady in her huge Mercedes! That lady can flat DRIVE that barge! The skills you pick up at the Tyson's Corner parking lot.... Don

We got back in a very smooth and speedy fashion. Thanks a lot for the ride, Harry... it may have turned out to be a very expensive 56 seconds though, because I fear I may now be hooked...
It was great seeing all of you again, as well. -Rufus (setting up cones in the driveway)

Indead, the Porsche Turbo did finish 3rd overall - not sure what the "indexed" time will be, but he was strong. The supercharged Cobra at 52 sec flat, the older Corba at 52.2 sec (he left in a huff), and the Porsche at about 52.4 sec (if I recall correctly). Yes, Janet drives the wheels off of that 1973 sedan, but did you see Debbie in the black 280 SL? BTW, I suspect that Gonzo with his blue WRX finished in "FIRST" place after the indexing - he did last month. That thing flies with him at the wheel. Oh, Ron is the one that really drove the mini-meet organization. I just executed the plan...... Couldn't have done it without you, Ron! Again, I enjoyed everyone coming down (and up for Don and Jean) for the weekend. Great fun! Glad I have a convert for autocross with Rufus - try it one time behind the wheel and you'll really be hooked. Need to get Sue out there too. And you of little faith in the SVX as an autocrosser! It may not be the fastest, but it sure is a lot of fun! BTW too. Thanks to Ron and John for helping to change the tires at the end of the day. I appreciated it, considering my advanced age and all.. We finally folded up the tent and departed about 4:30 PM. Can't wait until Sopring! Harry

Don't be so modest, Harry. Without your willingness to show us a great time, we'd be just a group o'yahoos hangin' around an electric fence darin' each other to pee on the wire.
The cone-show was fabulous. Maybe next year we can muster up a few dozen SVXers. Then YOU can be the one to autograph throttle body covers! Next to your 55.55 sec. performance, I enjoyed the Mercedes 300 turbo-diesel "limo" that turned about 60 secs., & somehow managed to spin its wheels coming out of tight turns....only 8 seconds slower than that Mustang "turbine" that took it all. Let's seriously look at doing something at Summit Point next year too. Rufus should have his racing goggles picked out by then. Ron.

Summit at Summit Point
<Let's seriously look at doing something at Summit Point next year >
Ron, are you refering to electric fences or waitresses? Thanks for picking up the ball of "Snowshoe III" (or Brakeshoe I) as it headed out of bounds.... Harry, does the Mercedes Club print out a final list of the participants and their times? It would sure be cool to see how everyone did....like the Morgan for example....and the 2.5RS. Which reminds me....I think this trip has ruined Jean. She keeps talking about trading her old Impreza for a WRX and buying a helmet. Keeps muttering something about showing those "flatlander" women how to REALLY take a curve.... Don

I think Ron was referring to the Waitress... And yes, if you check the web site in a week or two, the Mercedes Club should have the final results of the last autocross posted (along with all the others, of course). The web site is: www.gws-mbca.org. Click on autocross in the top left and looks for "RESULTS for each event. Glad to hear that Jean is hooked too. CRANK'UM up, throw on those tire and let's go get'um! I wish you and Jean had taken a ride. Then, like Rufus, you would really be hooked. Later, Harry

Hooked
<I wish you and Jean had taken a ride. Then, like Rufus, you would really be hooked>
I think I got hooked many years ago. We just don't live close enough to such meets to be able to easily participate. I think with all the medicine I was on, and my tendency for inner ear imbalance when I'm on such stuff, I made the right choice....but I do wish I could have gone for a spin...er...let me rephrase that! I wanted Jean to go with you, so that she would stop buggin' me about driving too fast....you would have my permission to scare the water out of her! hehehe Anyway... Is the spring meet at Summit Point held on the track or on another parking lot? Are the rules for joining one of these flings also posted on the MercedesClub site? I just wondered if they had a class for little bitty tiny cars.... Don

Great shots, Mike. The pic between the horse's legs is particularly good BTW, did you notice the bullet indentations on the road sign behind the cars? Of course, we were very near West Virginia!
I should have my photos back from the shop and posted by the weekend. Larry / Rosie, you missed a great time! - you too, Randy! Harry
