That is where we can help out. In most cases, there is someone around that can help out the new guy to find out if it is in good shape or not. I have had members accross the country check on a car for me so I would know what shape it is in.

Yes, I'm still in high school (Ugh haha) but Lynnwood is up by Seattle, correct? I have... Well, limited mechanical experience. My dad was a mechanic but I remember very little as him and my mom got a divorce when I was younger, so yeah. I have lately been getting into cars in general a lot more and I have been looking into going to WyoTech for their automotive technician program

When I get the opportunity, I would most definitely love the expertise and input of almost any member on here, as most of you guys know your stuff

With 19 SVX's, I'm sure you've bought them from ALL OVER hahaha, I'm so jealous I am particularly interested in the JDM Right Hand Drive model though! I didn't know they made them over there Are there any other differences besides the obvious Right Hand Drive?

Re: Couple Questions on Buying an SVX!

Yes, there are differences in them besides the right-hand drive. Is there a reason you want to go to WyoTech for their automotive technician program? There are some much better, cheaper and closer to home than that one. Just curious about it.

That is the reason the meets are so good. You get to see others cars and what they have done to them, or what problems they have had and how they have fixed them. We have maintenance meets which allow members to get some stuff done on their cars for almost nothing and fix some of the esay stuff. I hope to see you at one of the meets in the future.

I am leaning towards WyoTech because they complete they're program in 9 months. So I wouldn't have to be gone for too long. If you have any other options I should look at, please let me know

I will most likely try to get to the soonest meet that I can get to, just to kinda get to know people, ya know?

Re: Couple Questions on Buying an SVX!

Yay, another young'n that can be saved from "ricing out" some poor SVX.

It's good you came to this site, there are a lot of knowledgeable people here who are willing to help instead of just flaming you like a lot of other sites.

Just be patient looking for one and be even more patient if (when ) it breaks. They really are great cars.

And funny enough, I'm starting at wyotech's blairsville campus at the end of next month

I would never "rice out" any car haha. But yes, I have noticed how helpful everyone is here, which is why I joined here And the SVX is one of the few cars that I would buy and never want to get rid of. It is so unique, I love it

If I were to go to WyoTech, I would be going to the Sacramento Campus.

Re: Couple Questions on Buying an SVX!

Just a quick bit, if your mechanicly inclined and like to learn some svx's with problems can be had for alot less than well,... alot. My first of two was 700 clams, had just had 3400$ worth of front end body work and paint, 298$ alternator repair, I drove it 35 miles home replaced 2 knock sensors and an air filter, Kand N was messing with the MAF, been driving around trouble free since, yee ha!! Bought the second as a parts car for 650 clams, ended up doing a 4.44 swap to it and drivng around ever since, yee ha. So there are options for the SVX owner who is a wrench turner. I can't imagine not owning at least one! Cheers and good luck........G

Wow! That's an awesome story! I would just much rather buy a nice, well taken care of one that doesn't really have any problems for my first one. After I start getting used to the car and working on it, I will probably buy other ones that are less fortunate and fix 'em up!

Re: Couple Questions on Buying an SVX!

+1 for starting off with an already good one. You can still find them, but it might take some waiting/watching. Took me 2 months to find mine last summer. I'm not the most mechanically inclined, so I wouldn't have even been able to fix one up, but I have been able to take care of most of my car's problems as they crop up. Plus I need to be able to rely on my car for work/school. Good luck and have faith. And don't be afraid of having one shipped from super far away as long as you can get someone in the know to check it out for you.

Here's one in tampa I'd jump on if I were in the market: http://tampa.craigslist.org/hdo/ctd/1738393872.html

I might be able to take a look at it for you if you're interested. Most likely needs a transmission soon though, but southern cars are good about rust.

I would jump on that if I had the money. What kind of seats are the ones in there? Those aren't stock are they? I like them a lot

That one is an LS trim one, vs the more common LS-L ones. The LS seats have the same micro-suede stuff like the rest of the interior, whereas the LS-L ones are leather. The LS-L also has speed-sensitive power steering, and something else I can't remember. Other than that, they're basically the same. Honestly, I'd kind of like the seats out of an LS, seeing as how they're more rare, but I can't imagine it's easy to keep them clean.

Hmm I really like those seats. They're a lot different than the stock ones. It adds more character I think I would have to get me some of those haha.

Those seats are stock. Just to an LS. If you want a sunroof, don't get an LS.
