Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

For all Garmin experts, I need some assistance with the following:

Back home, a lot of thefts are occurring where road pirates just stick a gun in your face while driving your car and oblige you to leave it running on the side of road... and they take off in it while leaving you there.

now Garmin devices are sold all over the middle east and I have on my cell phone a (pirated) version of it covering the entire Middle East area.

My question is the following, disregarding the maps needed, what way is there where I can put a tracking device inside my car and track it on my Garmin cell phone or laptop just in case its gets stolen?

My mom recently bought a 2004 E320 (well they cost $27000 here because of customs) besides my 2005 Z350 (which I shipped also home). Just few weeks ago, similar Mercs were stolen and I am afraid they steal ours besides, God forbids, hurting my mom (at least I wanna track those a-holes ).

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

Typically most GPS units only have a receiver built-in, but do not transmit their actual location.

Re: Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

Tim, there is a Dog Collar made by Garmin which is somehow similar to what I want. But it would be weird to use it inside a car. I was wondering if Garmin has such a technology, what exactly would I want for my car application...

Re: Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

You may want to try contacting lojack, I didn't see any support for your location. Maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Re: Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

Michael, unfortunately lojack doesn't exist for this part of the world.
Concerning Garmin, the map is a map. I can get a US Garmin unit and install a Middle East map on it, no probs. We have everything related to Garmin. I just need to know what unit/accessories to get for my application.
As I said before, this technology exists for Dogs, you can track your dog wherever he is. I have already sent an email to Garmin and waiting for their reply, but I thought I would ask here someone who already tried them to get a better feedback/recommendations.

Maybe buy mom an AK-47 or a couple hand grenades..... that is, if she doesnt want to manually hack them up with a machete. A perfect Mothers Day gift to compliment the flowers!

Re: Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

Ok ok ok..... the only way to track in your area without LoJack is to find a spy shop or use the internet and locate a bird-dog. I believe depending on the device, it can send out a constant signal that your receiver can triangulate, similar to what the police use in the lojack systems or to trace stolen money after a bank robbery.

This system stand-alone will probably be very expensive, but I guess its worth looking into if carjackings are that common in your area.

All you could do is look online for a gps car tracker I am sure there are products for this.

Quick search showed there are option even out in the middle east. They are block boxes and thanks to the internet allows you to view it anywhere at anytime.

Re: Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

I went through them, from what I've understood they don't have nice maps similar to Garmin. The good thing about this system is that you can read road names, places, exact locations, etc.... Hence my interest in it rather than others.

I don't blame you I rather enjoy my garmin but if you can't find a garmin compatible device then take what you can. Although the maps may not be as detailed If you type the long and lat into maps you can get a exact location.

Re: Who Knows Garmin Devices in Deep?

Blackberry's have an app which allows you to see the location of any of your friends on Google Maps. A signal is sent to the phone and the location is triangulated from close by cell towers. I believe you can access it from any computer, as long as you are on the "Allow List" you enter into the phone.

Do they sell BlackBerry's out there?
