2000 Legacy L Sedan Questions
I didn't know if I should post this in Parts wanted since it isn't SVX related but I am looking for help on sourcing a 4.44 trans and rear diff, from what I have read this car should have come with 4.11 gearing but not sure. What kind of LSD options or upgrades could I perhaps perform on the diff.
Also one of the articles I read said it is 50/50 AWD split in 1st and 2nd gears then 90/10 split after that. Can anyone confirm this? FYI for others interested here is some of what I have done already: I recently put a CAI on and it sounds and runs pretty good. I also installed Bilstein struts and STI Pink Springs and the handling greatly improved it was night and day difference since the original struts were shot. I also installed a Rallitek front and rear sway bar upgrades and that with the suspension made cornering a blast. I put on a rallitek front aluminum skid plate. Remote start. Audio upgrade nothing too special just upgrade from stock. Wheels and Rims, brake rotors/pads and braided steel lines from Tirerack. This is my daily driver so I like it to be fun to drive while I take my time on the SVX. Any info or help is appreciated. |

Re: 2000 Legacy L Sedan Questions
if you want a 4.44 I would talk to budfreak about getting one from him. He seems really into those setups.
your mods impress me. I'd love a ride in that thing sometime if we ever cross paths.

Re: 2000 Legacy L Sedan Questions
if you are looking for a 4.44 5sp the only car that i know that cam with that gear set up is 04 forester xt ,normally 5spds are 4.11 and autos are 4.44
and manuals do not change there spilt ,they use a viscuos coupling with a center diff for awd ,for some good used parts you can try F/S auto parts at 203 597 9724 they are a subaru scrape yard that all so rebuilds cars |

Re: 2000 Legacy L Sedan Questions
I guess I should have been a bit more specific about that. Yes I would like to keep it automatic, I am a lazy driver and hate having to shift and deal with a clutch. That and I believe the manual tranny would keep it in more of a 50/50 split all the time.
I was hoping some one may have the right year of impreza or outback with auto 4.44 set up that they would want to sell or just the parts on hand or know where to get a set up. I just want something to help with the low end power because it is pretty week on the low end until the RPMs climb then it feels alot more sporty. I prefer naturally aspirated NA set ups though I know turbos and SC will dramatically increase any power and performance. The biggest problem with the after market performance mods and Subaru's I think is they pretty much deal with Impreza WRX/STI and maybe some Legacy GT stuff. Chips and software etc are not easy to find for NA and Automatics. I understand it but I still want options too. Thanks for the responses and Subeman90 if we cross paths why settle for a ride when you can just take it for a drive |

And Mike is blamed for being the gremblin around these parts! SM90 couldn't even go a mile without injuring my TVR.

don't mind him folks...he is just mad that his car can't make it 1/4 of a mile from my house without dieing in the roadway.

Re: 2000 Legacy L Sedan Questions
The torque split of the 4EAT used in that car is going to be similar to that used in the SVX, which can be said to have a nominal torque split of 90/10. This is before any modification is made by the TCU, however, and in my extensive testing the only time I saw 90/10 is when the car was cruising at speed, or when you are stopped, the engine is idling, and the accelerator is not depressed. As soon as you give it gas, it's gonna change that torque split. It is less aggressive than the SVX is as I understand it from those who have cracked the TCUs It shouldn't make any noticeable difference because the engine in that car is significantly less powerful than the SVX's. If you're looking to increase the torque split, you can do this easily by raising base line pressure in the transmission, or by modification of the main valve body and/or the transfer valve body.

Re: 2000 Legacy L Sedan Questions
NiftySVX if I followed you correctly and either increase my baseline pressure or valve body mod then I would get/feel more power at lower RPM acceleration? If that is the case I am betting that the things done to our SVX transmissions would or could be done to this one in much the same way.
I had thought the split 50/50 was mechanical or hydromechanical transmission function for 1st and 2nd and 3rd 4th were always 90/10. Since even in when the shift selector is in drive and you accelerate from a stop you start out with the 50/50 bias no matter what, which kind of goes along with what you have seen since cruising speed you would be in the higher gear ranges anyway. The whole point of the 4.44 would be to give me more immediate low end power and when RPM's go up I would have be more inclined to be driving in the higher power band where I feel it now. |
