Opened up the ECU and....

Hey everyone. I opened up the ECU today and noticed that we have the noise suppressor bead that people recommend to crush.

Have any aussies done this and if so, was it all good afterwards?

I'm a little hesitant because I can't just go to Bunnings and grab another ECU if I screw it up.

Mctaff?
Tony?
'E'?
Dynomatt?
Harvey?
Anyone?

Nope, I've stayed out of the ECU up until now.

But you've certainly raised some interest!

I know it was a common mod back in the Yahoo days, but I genuinely believe that if you were to apply either the Power mode mod, or Harvey's Quick Shift you will get much more benefit and better driveability from your car.

That's not to say it does not work or is not effective, but I will say I have no faith in it as an upgrade.

One tiny word of caution; It think this bead crush mod applies to the transmission computer, usually known as the TCU. If you actually do have the engine computer out, the ECU, I'd advise you don't crush any beads in it. God knows what harm you would do.

The crush mod was ECU not TCU.

Thanks Chris.

I stand corrected.

Re: Opened up the ECU and....

I would not touch the ECU.

The Australian SVX doesn't have the emission controls that the US model has. It also does not exhibit the hesitation on take off that the bead crush is said to fix. From my experience with it, the car jumps from a standing start, no problems.

Harvey.

Re: Opened up the ECU and....

Yes - the ECU is the part of the car where the soul resides. Just like K.I.T.T from Knight Rider.

The rest of the car is just steel, rubber and glass. The ECU is what makes SVX one of a kind.

The ECU has a life force.

Re: Opened up the ECU and....

Hey all! It's the ECU not the TCU

Harvey, I'll take your word for it but also, you have a 1995 model SVX and according to all the things I've read 95+ models SVX don't have the bead in the ECU but I guess you'd know if you've taken yours apart.

I think the performance of the car is different in the low rev than high revs, I wouldn't call it a "hestitation" though. (high revs being much better)

It's such a hard decision, to crush it or not. It's obviously not a normal thing to do.

I'll take a picture and post it before it goes back in the car.
