Sorry to hear that.
 I never leave anything visible in the car (parked somewhere or in my driveway) that some one would like to steal. "Out of sight, out of mind". At least insurance will cover the camera.

where was the camera? sounds like somebody knew you had that. covered or not I'd be lost without my camera for that long. (it's only a 400 dollar camera 5 years ago, but still that would make me so MAD!)

Im not so mad about the camera itself, just the fact that it had my most recent vacation pics on it. Now someone else has them, and I will more than likely never see them again. And it was sitting on the floor behind the drivers seat, and no it wasnt covered. I dont see how it would have been someone I know, I dont talk to anyone where I live. And I only hang out with my gf and family. Ive put a lot of distance in people I used to hang out with.

That sucks man, sorry for your losses...
But look at the bright side of it, your camera is gonna be replaced by insurance, and they didn't break one of those upper windows, that would have been a nightmare. As for that window, easy repairable, no more than 2 hours, but be careful how you remove the clips of the inner trim. If I still remember correctly they are metal clips...

I hate when people go for the smash and grab. I usually put my camera into the trunk but I never leave it in there unless I really have to.
 What kind of camera was it?

It was a Canon Rebel XTi, along with a 70-300 IS lens, case, and some other goodies to go along. For a total of about $2000

Oh noooo....
Sorry to hear that. I am glad to hear that insurance is paying for it so now you can upgrade to the Xsi. I am currently in the process of getting all my gear insured which will cover it getting stolen if you are in the field, so it may be something you might want to consider. I think i'd be devastated if my stuff was stolen.

Well I went to a local junk yard, and picked up another window for $50. I watched how it was removed from the car, then decided to just tackle the project myself. The window is only bolted to the regulator in two spots, so it didnt look too difficult. So after 15 minutes of cleaning up the broken glass everywhere, I started on the window. Took me about 10 minutes to have it back into the body, and bolted to the regulator. Needless to say... Subarus quote of an 8 hour (extremely involved) install, was way off. Took me less than half an hour, and it looks as if it was never broken.
So were not going to claim the car on the insurance, just the camera on our home owners. Our auto deductible is $100, so its not worth it. And Tim, I will be taking your advise, and upgrading to the XSi. It looks nice, and comes with a better kit. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully this will all be settled sooner than later. On a better note I guess... I found the serial numbers for the camera and one of the lenses. So now the police have them, and they are watching for it in the pawn shops. If Im lucky, and they find it, my pictures wont be gone already...
