Unhappy OT/Colorado Fires

I guess we've all seen the continuing fire disasters in Colorado. I've been in contact with Michelle (thndrmtn92SVX), & she says it's a mess all over. We'd appreciate it if our Mountain State SVXers would check in & let us know if all's OK. Hopefully all IS OK!

Ron.

Ron's right, it's amazing. The whole state appears to be on fire. The worst one is just southwest of Denver, which appears to be burning at about a mile an hour.
We here on the other side of the continental divide are dealing with one fire in Glenwood Springs which has caused evacuations. There is another one closer to where I am that has cause evacuations as well.
We've had fire planes flying in and out of here for the last few days.
We are truly in a desperate situation as far as moisture is concerned. It hasn't rained here in over 3 weeks.
Please think (or pray) about those who are in imminent danger.
Hopefully we won't become one of those, but I think about them everyday.
This situation is going to get worse before it gets better, because we are just entering the regular fire season.
There is a fire ban in the entire state of Colorado, so if you think you might be visiting, please remember not to throw your cigarette butts out the window and there are no open fires allowed in any campgrounds.
Thanks everyone for your concern.

~~ Michelle

They've closed all the forests here in New Mexico and its making me pretty miserable. The flora above 10000' here is in good shape, but it is the elevations that you have to drive though to get there that are very dry. Idiots will find some way to catch this stuff on fire. At on time here there had been over 320 fires, and 280 had been attributed to "human cause" (one guy in the southern part of the state "off-ed" himself because of guilt after starting one of the first fires of the year).

Had planned to go to El Malpais National Monument this last weekend because it was still open. It is a wide lava flow in the middle of the desert, desolate but still pretty cool. Thursday it caught on fire and smoke from the blaze hung around Albuquerque all weekend. What could be burning out there, rocks and snakes??

Just read the above Colorado post:

I left work near 2 years ago today, looked in the direction of Los Alamos and saw the smoke from the fire as I got into the SVX (yeah, it was there), knew that the wind was supposed to be 40 MPH that night, and truly expected the place to be vaporized. Thankfully the forecast was wrong and the wind abated, the town was luckily only touched on the fringes.

Good luck and godspeed, that's what it takes.....

Colorado Fires....

The fires continue to burn in Colorado. As I listen to the KOA morning news, they say there are 7 fires burning in the state. The largest is the Haymen fire, southwest of Denver. They are saying this is the largest fire in recorded Colorado history....

Sunday, I was in Denver for a outdoor music festival; The smoke from the fire covered the city, leaving ashes everywhere. It looked like a bad Los Angeles smog day. Things were so obscured that you could look directly at the sun and it was just a red ball in the sky....everything had a red tint to it; I looked like I had a bad sunburn....really weird.

It's not against the law to be an idiot; but when they catch the ass***** who are responsible for these fires, they are really going to make life miserable for them.....it is amazing how they put the pieces together and are able to track down the source...

I live about 2 hour's from Glenwood where, the last I hear, half the town had to evacuate. They just down I-70 going through Glenwood.
A few day's ago, they smoke and haze even reached to Craig.

I'm getting pretty worried, since Craig is a very dry town.

soooo dry

Yup, it's definately dry. This weekend I was able to go to Crested Butte, CO, and it looked decent, but just on the other side of the mountains in Marble it was terribly dry. Lots of water in the creeks (at least it looked that way to a NM person), but nothing on land. We did some off roading and the dust was overwhelming. It has obviously been dry there for a looong time. If I'm not mistaken, we've only had .04" of rain this year in Sandia Park. That plus lots of trees has us worried too. So, we'll all just hope for the best for Colorado, NM, and Cali.

At first the whole state was smoky but it has cleared up even though the fires still burn.

I saw the satellite loop on the news day before yesterday. It was interesting, how quickly the fire spread and how many points at which it broke out simultaneously.

Be safe, you guys.

Yeah the fires are crazy, just wonder how long it will take to contain. I doubt it will be much sooner than 2-3 months. I guess we will see if we actually get some rain soon.
