Thumbs up EssVeeEx - - Superstar!

About ten minutes ago. What a rush!

I was behind a slow line of 5 cars, when just over a hill I got sight of clear road ahead. There was a small courier truck just ahead of me, and the car ahead of it made the jump. I was coming up behind him (pretty quickly) when the courier driver decides to give it a go. Hard on the brakes to let him in, and then accelerate again. I was right behind him as he was getting around the third (now the last) car in the line. As she sees his back bumper, here she comes. (Oh boy.) Her rear quarter missed my front quarter by about six inches. I moved over into a non-existant lane, i.e. there was a three-inch drop into the gravel and then a transition into a narrow strip of grass, with a nice ditch on my left. As I went off the berm, the car started sliding tail-left. I eased off the brakes and more or less held it straight with a concrete culvert coming up rather quickly. (I suppose I was down to around 70 at this time, still quite a bit faster than the car that cut me off.) She saw me just as I left the road, so she slowed down and I got back over, just in time for me to miss the barrier. I don't think the speed fell below 50 in all this time.

I pulled off into a parking lot to check for damage (there was none) and she pulled up behind me. She was crying and could hardly walk. She kept saying, "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." And then, "You're an amazing driver!" I said, "It's an amazing car! What a rush!" (I'm still a little excited.) Autocross/Pro Rally experience, and a really great handling car just saved my life.

Steve, man, I'm glad you made it through unscathed. Sheesh. I wouldn't have pulled over and checked for damage. I'd have pulled over and checked my drawers. Good show!
