need some help witch eBay.

Hi it is not about SVX but i want opinion from people that have mor expirience witch eBuy than me.
Recently i was biding on bike :2004 BMW R 1150 R 8400 miles.
Buy it now price was set at7500$ my last bid was 3500$,auction was canceled and highes bid before it happened was3950$
feew days ago i got second offer email from eBay,saying that i can have bike for 3500$(that would be awsome!)
i contacted this seller and this is what he send back:

Hello,

You have the opportunity to purchase this item at your bid price.
The high-bidder had some problems and couldn't handle the situation, so following eBay's suggestion, I've contacted you this way. First of all I want to tell you that I'm not at home (where the item is located). Because of my job I have to move all the time. Now I am located in Madrid, Spain. I work for a worldwide company. This is a good thing for you because I have connections and I can ship it for free. The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy regarding to this second chance offer. In order to start the official transaction, I need to know your details:
-full name and shipping address
-eBay user ID
As soon as I have them I'll start the official procedure and eBay will notify you about this. You'll also receive important guidelines and payment instructions from them (please go through them exactly). I'll handle the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you + I am willing to deduct you with the fee for handling the payment procedure. We will use eBay's Escrow Insurer to manage the payment. It is the safest way for both of us and also you will have 10 days to inspect the product before I receive the money. Also, a refund policy will be included. I have title in hand and the shifting is smooth. Also it has no electrical or mechanical problems.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

I e-mailed him saying that i need few day to check everything.
What you thin is this offer legit?
Maybe it is too good to be true?I"m afraid i'm not that lucky
Does any of you had similsr situation ?
Thank for your input.
Bart

This usually happens because they have it set up where a friend or they themselves artifically increase the price in the hopes you will bid higher. If you do not bid higher, and you lose, they will offer it back to you knowing they will probably not get more then what you were bidding.

Yes it's a scam, but you probably will come out on top, especially if you really want that bike and want it at that price. I have had this happen to me and happily accepted, though Ebay encourages you to not accept these terms for the sake of not encouraging this kind of behaviour.

Then again, sometimes top bidders really do have problems. How long has it been between end of item and getting that email? That should be a clue.

If you doubt that it's a scam, reply that you have a cousin (brother, friend, father....) in the city that the bike is located. They will come tomorrow and pay cash and pick up the bike... You'll never hear from them again.

Yeah, I didn't consider they might not actually have a bike to sell. I don't buy expensive things from Ebay. Best to check it out first or do what Hocrest said.

I reread your post. I am a little confussed. Can you clarify if the auction was cancelled purposely or did it end normally and the winning bidder forfeited giving you second-chance rights?

It has nothing to do with canceling the auction early or the Second chance offer. I'm sure everyone that bid on the bike got the same email. The following lines from the email are the scammy bits.

We will use eBay's Escrow Insurer to manage the payment.
These same statements are used in MANY EBay and craigslist scams. They offer a rare/soughtafter car, often well below fair market value. They are looking for people to jump on this "once of a lifetime deal" without giving it too much thought. Once you contact them, they hit you with the requirements. The car NEEDS to be shipped. You NEED to use their escrow service. You NEED to use their shipping service.
Once you pay, they disappear with the loot. The car never existed and the shipping and escrow service were both fake. They have your money and since the auction wasn't official, neither were the 2nd chance offers so EBay isn't gonna do a damn thing to help out.
