That's the thing, they're not hoses. they're solid, but pourous, with tunnels and such to allow pressure to release and expand the cavities. Check out the hand video on that site, hand/arm, really creepy, but cool looking.

Hmmmm Festo....We use a fair bit of Festo products at work. NOT the most reliable product in the inventory. I'd bet on one of those "links" going boom, maybe not explosively, but with a sickening hiss as one corner of the chair starts to sink.
Now if it were bult by Ross, or Mac pneumatics..... I have seen Ross valves that were OEM on 70yr old equipment, still working. The Festo stuff lasts 8-10mo in a 5-10 cycle/sec environment. The valves on that chair would run in the 100cycle/sec realm. BTW I'm an industrial machine mechanic/electrician
