What do we listen to?

So, I was looking for SVX vids on and youtube the other day, and I noticed a trend of very undesirable (imo) music, and it got me thinkin'

"Maybe this is what this crowd listens to?"

So I ask you SVXWN, what kind of music do you listen to? Name some songs, favorite bands, genres you follow.

I'd put a poll but as the self proclaimed music aficionado I am, I feel it's offensive to try and define music into "ROCK, POP, RAP, TECHNO" lol.

I'll go first. Most of the music I listen to falls under the electronic genre.
Some of my favorite artists would include; New Order, Electronic, M83, LCD Soundsystem, Tokyo Police Club, Chemical Brothers, Ferry Corsten, and The KLF... To name a few.

And now, I look to you.

One of my faves as you might have guessed from the Avatar is Clutch. I just recently rediscovered Fu Man Chu. Back in the high school days i was into much heavier music but as i get older its all mellowin out. I agree with the statement about the undesirable music even though i actually like the songs just don't think they belong in a SVX video. Just my opinion though and the videos were still entertaining.

Early model (pre-1975) Yes, Pink Floyd, Mountain, Led Zeppelin, Genesis (with Peter Gabriel fronting), Moody Blues, Renaissance, et al., plus Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Liz Story, Vangelis. Some weekends I go all highbrow and listen to classical on NPR.

I'm a classic rock kind of guy. I love The Who, well anything Townshend and of course Led Zeppelin, The Stones, The Kinks, Pink Floyd and Genesis, really old Genesis. I listen to newer stuff too Pearl Jam, Citizen King, Pantera, Megadeth and so on and so on. I did buy two Blue October CD's the same week that I bought my SVX, so I identify Blue October with my SVX experience.

Not to hijack this thread, but as long as we are on the subject of music. This Friday, July 13th, Candlebox is doing a free show in Pittsburgh. It's at Station Square, the show goes from 5-11, I don't know if there is an opening band, but it should be a good time. Oh yeah and once again, IT'S FREE!!!!!!

I'll listen to all kinds of things.

Lots of NIN lately, I kind of rediscovered it, the BYIT DVD is just awsome.
I've always liked blues, hard rock and old metal, classic rock.
classical, or techno-pop, depeche mode type stuff when I'm codinz on the puter.

The Miami Vice soundtrack when I'm driving the SVX during a summer evening. It's somehow so very appropriate, lol.

Hmm. Being a twentysomething, I have a fairly broad taste in music. Some favorites at the moment include: Jamie Cullum, Keane, Dream Theater, Beck, Cake, Just Jack, Eisley, Bjork, Zwan, Tilly and the Wall, Incubus, Sonata Arctica, Ben Folds, Chemical Brothers, Junkie XL, Aphex Twin, Tool, Kooks, Coheed and Cambria, The Bravery, Fleetwood Mac, Fatboy Slim, DMB, Bush, Hadouken, Travis, Head Automatica, Coldplay, Paolo Nutini... to name a few

Needless to say again, it varies widely.

My fav band! The last album is just awesome. Especially the first songs... Very Metallica "... And Justice For All" inspired... Yeah I know sounds silly at first but listen to it and you'll see (or better said hear ) what I'm saying.

BTW, I just saw the guys on the 15th of June in my town (Luxembourg). Was great (like the 2184 other times I saw 'em! ). Some pics here:

Njoy!

Well my all time favourite is Bruce Springsteen. No one really comes close to him but I am a classic Rocker I guess - Bob Dylan, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Kinks, Genesis, Peter Gabriele, Supertramp, U2, Stones, John Mellancamp... Right now I'm listening to a lot of John Prine for some reason. I like some new country Dwight Yoakam by far would be my favourite New-Country guy.
I have a teenage daughter so I'm familiar with a of the new stuff and like a lot of it... Someone mentioned Avril Lavigne -- I like her too especially since she is Canadian..
I have a huge collection of Concert DVDs and love to listen to them on my 5.1 system..

Rock, pop, rap, techno...

Lol.

But srsly, what don't I listen to. To me, if I like the sound of something, it is music. If I don't it is crap. Any genre can produce both crap and beautiful soothing melodies.

Name something not totally obscure and I probably listen to it. I drive all day so I listen to the radio all day. I just hit the buttons and go through each station and stop on whatever is playing a song I like or am not tired of.
I do have to admit I am pretty commercialized in my taste, but come on, you have to go out of your way to find any good underground bands. If you don't, they are not underground.
