I don't have an SVX (yet ) but from what I've read on this network is that that is a sure sign that the transmission is about to fail What it is specifically I don't know, but I've heard that it happens usually between gears 2-3. Someone who knows what they're talking about will probably reply to this later.

You may not think we're the best when we tell you that your tranny may be on the way out. Sounds like your clutches are slipping from your description. Not a good sign. Obviously, I can't be sure, not being there to "feel" it in person. Also, here is a list of things that could cause slippage from 1-2, according the the trouble shooting chart in the Service manual:

Control Unit
Throttle Sensor (TPS)
Accumulator (2A)
Strainer (in your transmission pan)
Duty Solenoid A
Control Valve
Band Brake

First thing, though, pull your dipstick, and smell your fluid. Does it smell burnt? Is it dark in color (take a white paper towel and lay the dipstick on it. If it's brownish instead of pink or reddish, it's burnt). Perhaps all you'll need is to have your transmission serviced, where they drop the pan and clean the internal filter (strainer). Do you get a "hissing" sound when you take off from a standing start (from your transmission)? If so, it's most probably the strainer.

Try disconnecting the resistor, behind the battery and see if the slippage still occurs. If not, it could either be the resistor, the solenoid (Duty A), or the TPS.

As you can see, there's no "simple" answer. The good news (kinda) is, that when the tranny's just about gone, the slippage starts in the 2-3, not the 1-2.

Best of luck -- and, welcome to the Network.

a while ago mine was slipping between 2nd and 3rd like that. Pulled the resistor behind the baterry and it works perfect now. Hopefully that's your problem.
