Toyota to Nextel Cup

They are already in the Craftsman Truck Series. Everyone saw this one coming:

Great. Now every riceboy will want an old RV and a mullet. I've been heckled to no end because of the mullet to muscle car correlation. Now, thanks to Toyota, it's the import lover's turn...WHOOHOO!!!

Saw the pics today in our local paper!! CAMREY will be running Nextel this year!! It might make the guys from Detroit take notice!!
Looked like a competitor to me!! Has the same geomitry as the big 3 and has Jap tech!!! I have seen the differences between what they race, and what you can buy! The CAMREY that I saw, no doubt has the engine out of the V-8 Tundra, and a 'Prepared' chasis, with enhanced' framework, and the profile that Nextell provides for all cars that run.

You cannot BUY the car I saw, But the rules have been so 'altered ' that they can present anything they want to as long as the 'jig' fits the body, and the engine is available in anything that they build!

The car I saw can only be bought in a fwd,or AWD, but it was a REAR w d car!

When I started watching races, 500 cars that they were using had to be sold to the public, BEFORE they could enter!! My, how things have changed!! How long has it been since a REAR wheel drive Monte Carlo has been offered?

Yeah, I really diskike the move NASCAR has been making toward running generic Unicars. I understand the safety considerations of building on a uniform tube chassis, but wish they'd at least make 'em use stock sheet metal, on a stock wheelbase and track, with an "available for the street" powertrain. What they've got going now can hardly be considered "stock car racing."

Ratings and advertisement. NASCAR has become so commercial that the racing spirit is gone completely. It's just a job that the drivers get paid to do. Before long, Vince McMahon will buy it and script it.

Since they make more Toyota Sedans in the US then ford does, what's the problem? I hope Nissan and Honda join to. Then maybe we can have IRS and FI. Whoa, the 1980's tech in NASCAR.

The problem is not the fact that they are in it. I see no reason to exclude Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc from the sport. They are as much an American car these days as the "domestic" cars are. My complaint is simply the response that this will cause among the ricer community.

BTW, Ford doesn't make any Toyota Sedans

I don't really foresee that happening. The last thing that a NASCAR team wants is a car that's more complicated than it needs to be.

Thanks for catching me on that one! I meant more sedans then ford makes in the US. I'd like to see some changes, and yes more "Stock" car-ish. Anyone watch DTM? German Touring car? It's on speed every once in awhile. They use real car bodies.

I knew what you meant. It was just funnier when I pretended that I didn't.

I agree about the "stock car" thing. Much the reason why I said it's becoming a ratings machine more than anything else.

If they ain't steel with doors that 'used to work', it ain't STOCK!!
Be about as fair to call them stock as it would be to say that the 440 in my 47 Dodge pu makes it a stocker cause the engine is Chrysler too! Never mind that they only had 60 HP from the factory!

Some people are just never happy...you already had 60HP and you still had to modify it? Wish I had 60hp!
