I don't know what it is about MR2s, Fieros, and RX7s, but there's lot of them in the junk yards and they're always trashed. For some reason, most of the people who end up with these cars beat the hell out of 'em. They're starting to get old enough now though that the only remaining ones that still run are cherished. The ones you see on the street now are in really nice shape because all the beaters have finally died. It's really a shame, but it makes them collectable. Subaru XT6s and RXs kinda fall into the same category. There's a lot of teenage drivers who end up with them. In some ways I'm still hoping that the SVX becomes the same way. It's a sad ending, but for those of us who love 'em, we'll still have our hands on the good ones.

this won't be a popular opinion......
but how about just getting cheap reliable (boring) transport with good gas mileage for the time being (some cheap hatchback/coupe - Honda/Toyota,etc.) at 35 miles/week, your not going to get much "fun" out of a fun car anyway. save your money, save your knuckles, and then you can get a better car when you have some more loot saved up. a $3000 fun car could easily end up costing you double that in maintenance and repairs, not to mention headaches and downtime. suck it up for now and get something "boring", and it may play out better later.

Are you trying to get yourself banned? Such blasphemous words. Where's an admin when you need one? (This calls for a spanking.) |

Bad cult member! Bad! You don't want the gods to smite your transmission do you? (The sisters Pleiades are a bitter lot.)
Think of these as chapters of the Subaru bible: Thread: You know your an SVX owner when... Thread: You know your car spends too much time at the shop when..... I rest my case. ...but I agree with you nonetheless. |

as an owner of both an SVX and a 1g DSM... i'd say you need to make one crucial decision.
Comfort/speed/highway cruiser or fast as hell/cheapish/COMMON Heres the difference between an SVX and a DSM... when something breaks on an SVX... its going to cost a fair amount. when something breaks on a DSM.. its cheap as hell. however, it'll break 3 times as often, espeically if you try to make it faster. my SVX is the perfect highway cruiser/daily driver kind of car. Much more style, much more class. The DSM (to me at least) is cheap speed. Now this is assuming a turbo of course

Are SAAB Turbos that unreliable and expensive? I always thought the rare 9-3 Viggen was HOT! I found a real nice 1987 Porsche 944 for $5500. Not sure if turbo or not. They have 2 928's so I was a little preoccupied .
