The list only shows the meanings of the main models and not the variants.

Hey Paul,

How come you are back in Japan? Thought you were back in Middle Earth for good.

Were Isuzu thinking of checkers or chess when they named your car
"Isuzu Piazza Nero"?

Joe

Not sure where I want to live yet, Japan or NZ.

The original Piazza logo was 4 stylised black and white squares. Piazza is Italian for square and Nero is Italian for black. Isuzu were keeping to the Italian theme for the Piazza, which was one of Giugiaro's favourite designs.

Don't know about the rest but the Liberty is the Austrlalian Legacy. The name Legacy was allready registed by an org. that looks after war widows and kids. So we are the only country to have it.

Harvey.

PLEO: Latin meaning perfection. Conveys the meaning of high quality in Subaru's small compact car.

PLEO NESTA: Nesta is coined from 'new and 'star'.

PLEO NICOT: From the Japanese 'nikoniko' meaning smile.

SAMBAR: A large deer of India and southern Asia, having three-tined antlers and a reddish-brown coat.

SAMBAR DIAS: Dias is Spanish for 'everyday'.

LEONE: Italian meaning 'male lion'.

VIVIO: From Greek numerals VI + VI + 0 = 660 which was the engine size. 660cc is the maximum engine size allowable for the JDM 'kei' class.

VIVIO BISTRO: Bistro is French for small chic restaurant, this model was marketed to young Japanese female drivers.

REX: Latin meaning 'king'

LIBERTY: Australian model name for the Legacy as Subaru were unable to use Legacy.

TRAVIQ: Coined word from the English 'Travel' and 'Quick'.

No details given for DL, etc.

Motor Trend did a special documentary issue on the SVX and the magazine will tell you what you want to know. I will dig it up and let you know what edition it was.

What was the question again?

I remember the GLH, it really did mean 'goes like hell'. A little Iaccoca humour.
