hey i voted for what i thought was the cheapest....flying would take the shortest amount of time. i know transport from NJ to oregon was roughly a grand...so you can get an idea of how much it would to transport.

if you do that, make sure that the company doing the transport has insurance.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

My vote is for flying, it will cost less then leaving a rental out of state (most likely) save the wife a long drive by herself, and is the quickest way to go.

You know, I never considered renting to be more expensive leaving the car out of state. Plan on hitting AAA on Monday to explore the cost of my options. Thought about the bus trip but it is a 19 - 21 hour ride depending on departure time. None too excited about the idea of sitting in a bus for a whole day. I will find out on Monday what the car rental costs will be. Flying is still an option I am open to if I can keep the cost down to a reasonable amount.

a one way rental isn't cheap. it'll probably run over $100 depending on which state you leave it in. i had to pay like $150-$200 when i left my rental up near Butler, PA when i picked up my svx. about what? $40 in gas? so about $200-$220 for a one way trip down?

airfare would probably run you $200-$250.

don't know about bus fares or train fares, but i imagine they would run between $75-$150 one way.

gas on the return trip $40-$60?

so about $300 (except for bus or train) total to get the car and back + time. i think you can ship a car from Huck's place to where you live for about $500.

i got quoted by a few places to ship from chicago to atlanta for that price. if it were me, i'd ship it to save time and piece of mind.

Well, I just purchased airline tickets to Lexington airport. Cost me $226 with taxes and fees. When I really thought about what it would all cost me to drive/rent a car it was just not worth the time and frustration. Huck is going to pick me up at the airport and I am driving home from his place. Thanks for all the input! It really helped me to have your thoughts and advice.

Wednesday, the 16th, actually. Are you between Somerset and WV and plan on being home in the morning? If so I could pack the Novus cleaners and drop them off for you. I could use a stretch after what...an hour in the car? Only 10 more hours in the seat after that. I'd actually love to be able to stop and visit a few members that happen to be along my travel path. Would be kind of fun. Hmm..Randy is in KY <snicker>... who is in WV... Tom! Hmm...I wonder if he is along my travel route...

Johnny
