No SVX. I found a list of all the "special" cars that show up in the used car lots, and no SVX. I found a 22b though. On day 694 special "black" cars show up, they're race cars like the 787b...etc. Make sure you have atleast 2.5mil by then (enough to buy one of them).

That happened to me, but not enough cash to buy those!!

No SVX is in GT4 for sure, sorry. Hope to see it in GT5 in couple of years.. Or in the other games.

My theory

as to why there's no SVX:

230hp, AWD, ~ $5,000 in the used lots.
Who wouldn't pick that as their first car? It would dominate!
It obviously had too many unfair advantages .

Or one giant unfair disadvantage - the automatic transmission. GT4 is supposed to be about accuracy in simulation. GT2 had the SVX in it - but with a 5-speed they made up. I imagine they did that in order to make the car even slightly competitive.

I disagree that the market value of the car had much to do with it. Values are one of the few aspects of the cars they can tweak for balancing reasons. The SVX could have easily been made unattainable. It's not like there's a shortage of attainable cars that do well, anyway. I bought a Mk1 MR2 and dominated many, many beginner, professional and Japanese series.

Aren't there some cars in GT4 that never came with an auto tranny? Thats why you can switch it from AT to MT depending on what you like better.

You're not really switching to an 'automatic' when you select AT. I mean, the gears are selected for you, but it's not like the car gets changed to whatever auto box (and its ratios) was available on the car. It's just using the manual ratios, but shifting for you.

This is one of those times when video game convention intrudes on a real 'simulator' experience. Racing games typically have the option of manual or automatic gear changes.

It's not only the automatic shifting that would have made the SVX uncomeptitive - I was referring to its gear ratios, mostly. It's just geared so tall - and there are only four gears.

Actually for the cars that came as 4 speed automatic only in GT4 such as the SSR or GNX when you use manual it has the same gears and ratios but the only difference is you can manually shift. Also, in campaign mode once you do the basic modifacations to the tranny you can start changing the gear ratios. So all in all there shouldn't have been a reason for PD to not include the SVX, the fact is they just didn't.

Got my GT Driving Force Pro wheel today, now to learn to drive at high speeds using more than just my thumbs! It's really not that hard of an adjustment considering it's how you normally drive a car, but having to use my feet in the game takes a bit of getting used to. My timing is way off now. Any of you who haven't gotten one of these yet and have $110+ to blow, I highly recommend it to really improve the experience.

Time to go to the junkyard, get a seat, and then some wood (or pipe, if you can bend/weld) and make a full-on setup!

No kidding, I wish I had the space in my apartment! Here are some people who have done just that! Some really do look cheap, but there are also some pretty nice setups.

I guess the wheel would take some getting used too. I tried driving it with the wheel at the store sitting down and it wasnt all that easy.

The SVX in the first GT has realistically crap gearing. If you floor it, it won't hit fourth until nearly 140...

Is anybody else somewhat dissapointed by the game? Besides the fact that there is no SVX in it? I think the sounds are terrible! Especially after playing NFS Underground 2 (which has fantastic sounds across the board). There are too many versions of cars that are basically identical. The handling for the American cars is terrible. I purchased and fully modified a GNX (one of my favorite cars of all time) first, and it still understeered right of the track on corners it should have been capable of taking easilly. THAT and the fact that it ran a 14.5 at the Vegas strip stock and only a 13.04 when fully modified... which is ridiculous considering stock GNX's have been known to get into the 12's in real life. This kind of thing holds true to many of the cars in the game (most prominent in the U.S. cars).

On the upside it has gotten more enjoyable as it progresses. I have gotten through about 12-13% and the STi Super Touring car you earn, for which race I forget, is fantastic (much better than a fully modded 800+ hp R34 Skyline)!

I sure do like the unusable cars that you win, like the Nike and Toyota Triathalon car. Can't wait to use those old 1 hp Mercedes and that Model T!
