Dog's bollocks Andy. Consumer Reports is full of hogwash. I mean heck, they think the best book ever sold was the bible. What do they know?

A bit O/T, but on Speed last nite (maybe a re-run?) the WRX STi won 1st place in the Car & Driver reader's sporty car of the year competition, beating out the Porsche GT3, 350Z convert, RX-8, 5-Series BMW and a bunch of others (eliminated in the first round) I didn't bother to remember.

Andy- you're right, I did slip up there. However, of the subaru's highlighted, it's my opinion that the WRX is just stellar compared to the others.

As for the bible, were they talking about quantity or quality?

I didn't read the article, it was mentioned in a post by Mr. Robert/Mr. Chicane. I'm assuming that CS measured the success of a book by the number of copies sold. Quality is but a matter of opinion in regards to books.

Every year CR does this stuff, I care less and less about it. They will say one thing, then turn around next year and say the complete opposite. They've spent the last few years picking apart VW's and Audi's and now they're all over that list. Interesting eh? Until they can figure out what THEY think, how can they recommend what we should think?

Supports what I've figured all along- the european stuff is pretty good, but the domestics are catching up; however, the Japanese have pretty much gotten it right all along.

I fear this is going to start another one of those really long discussional threads........................................... ....................

My biggest complaint on that list would be the ford Freestar. They had an article that showed FRAME DAMAGE from a 5mph impact. And they recommend it??? I mean FRAME DAMAGE???!!!! What's ford using these days? Balsa wood and crepe' paper?

I have a 2001 Audi S4... I also spend allot of time a Audi S4 forum...

I wouldn't be too quick to dis-credit CR....

Noir-

I was just saying that it's considered the best book because it's been printed so many times. Not because of the content. Tonight, I watched The Lost World on the tele, and the movie sucked, but the book wasn't bad. Jurrassic Park by M.C. was my favorite. I wonder what consumer reports would say about that book. In the book, it took two pages for Nedry to die. That was an exciting end to a chapter. Anyway, enough of this babble.

Success could be numbers, quality is opinion, and three is a wonderful number. Three is the number of points taken off my 2.5 hour calculus exam tonight (or so it should be).

I guess every great man must have a nemesis. You, Landshark, are my nemesis.

1 - There have been plenty of American cars on CR's good list (no thanks to Ford and Chrysler)

2 - Like I have said over and over and over again, I could really care less what CR says because they obviously have very different priorities than I do. Either the staff is made up entirely of middle aged moms, or all the guys have had their balls cut off through some unfortunate turn of events. Seriously, really read one of their car reviews...doesn't it sound like it's written by a 40-year-old single guy who lives with his mom and hosts weekly meetings for his local greenpeace chapter?

I got to check out the issue that is the subject of this thread. In this issue, they call a Passat, Jetta and Golf some of the best cars on the road, then further back in the SAME ISSUE, in their "cars to avoid at all costs" list, the Passat, Jetta, and Golf all appear. Check it out for yourself.
