Maybe we can give it a trial run for a wile, see if people warm up to it or if it's just going to be a constant ***** forum. I didn't really think we needed another forum for the way OT stuff, the best thing I liked about the idea was that the babble threads wouldn't get so crowded and moved along so fast.

PS. I still think a story about street racing with an SVX belongs in babble, but I do understand why you want all street racing storys it the OT forum.

Respect must be earned Phil.

I do have respect - tons of it - for the moderators. Very hard job they do and I'd never suggest otherwise. I'm appreciative of their efforts.

As for the endless Neon threads and attempts to start bottomless religeous discussion? Again, no.

Just my honest opinion, voiced now. Done with it.

Please don't take things to seriously! I think you are doing a great job. I just think you've made it harder on yourself by splitting a forum... It's ultimately your decision, and the vast majority of us here will cope, learn to live with it, or/and enjoy it. Who knows it may weed out some of the trolls... I haven't seen any anger about the split ... just some conversation. I'm not upset about anything... I'm still very grateful that this site even exists (I can't be driving the car all the time!!!). Relax and let the dust settle and let's see what happens. I don't think there is any need to rush into any "next action".

Thanks for all you do and please don't get upset. This shouldn't be work! If it's not fun...let's not do it (my new philosophy of life).

Bottomless religion discussion?

Wow.

I haven't been here for a couple of days. This is a surprise. And not one of the posts is from Rob.

Many folks here know how my religious views impact my life. A few even share my perspective. I've considered most of you to be personal friends. The fact is: friends sometimes talk about religion and/or politics. Proseletizing? Yeah, I suppose sometimes I do. (Heh. A lot of the local church-types tend to think I'm more of an SVX evangelist.) If you know anything about the last two verses of the book of Matthew (it's in the Bible ), you'll understand that proseletizing is sort of a commandment. Just the same, I've always felt that restraint was appropos here, in light of the community, and for that reason I've held back from saying a lot of things that I'd like to have said.

I think this is probably my third (or so) religious-oriented post in as many years. Not too bad. (Ask my friends, they'll tell ya.) Inappropriate for an SVX site? Yeah, probably. Call me socially inept. It won't be the first time.

I'm not likely to change. I don't see any real reason for that. Gonna ban me? That would be the supreme irony.

Okay, back to the (off-topic) topic. Larry, I can sure sympathize with that.

Most of the other on-topic (off-topic) comments were rather cliche, a few being historically unsupportable (in light of Earl's totally appropriate comment).

Oh, and thanks Mitch. I think.

I think steve has the right to make a few posts every now and then with regards to religion. It's no different that me posting about my cavalier in some respects. Steve is into his religion. I'm into my Cavalier. (I know that's a tough comparison to make, and probably isnt very accurate, but it helps to prove my point a little.) If I post about how cavaliers are sweet, people are welcome to come back and say "I dont feel that Cavaliers are not sweet and here's why." It's the same overall principle here.

I think it's important to note the importance something may hold to the person posting it. I know Steve didnt make this thread and expect to have a list 3 pages long of agreeing responces. I'm sure he's not offended by any objections which were made.

I for one see nothing wrong with this thread.

Mike

Here's a post from me: Whatever.

You have a right to an OPINION. I have a right to an OPINION. You believe that you understand the complexities of the universe and its easily explainable through a book that's been translated from one language to another, revised hundreds of times, contains rape, violence, and perverse sexual things , and is extremely hypocritical . You believe that with all the order in the world, there HAS to be a creator (ignoring that fact that if there IS a creator, he/she/it must be extremely intelligent and even more well designed than anything we've experienced.... yet.... he/she/it wasn't created?). You can believe that telling people to do something good or 'they'll go to hell' is a moral way to make someone moral.

I do not.

But if you want to post it, go ahead.

The end.

- Rob

Thanks, Rob.

And about that "go to hell" thing. I think you've been misinformed.

I will now say that a post (religious) of Steve's is more enjoyable to me than one about ***** (the other car). Not that I have too much against them, but I can relate to what Steve is talking about and share that in common with him. He is not cramming anything down anyones throat, just making a post. I would back Steve on his post as well.

I totally agree with Mike here. This is the OT forum. If you want only on-T stuff you know not to look in here.

Also..just because you don't agree with someone's belief, doesn't mean you have to put them down or start a flame war. Civilized discussion is great and why we love this place, but unkind BS has no place here.

Remember what mom said...if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything!

Example?

Person A: "I really like my cavalier/Jesus/mac/bicycle/justy/budweiser/led zeppelin/fill in the blank..

Person B: A, you are stupid. Cavalier/Jesus/mac/bicycle/justy/budweiser/led zeppelin/fill in the blank is the stupidest thing I ever saw. It sucks beyond belief

Person C: A, I think my sunfire/Buddha/PC/gokart/yugo/miller/rolling stones/etc is much better because......

Which is the appropriate response?

OK, i've had a bunch of beers outin the sun today, so i'm up for a deep discussion.
while i'm not an atheist or anything, i think too many religious radicals, and even most organized religions for that matter, take their religious writings (Bible,Koran, etc.) word-for-word and just lose sight of the big picture. i see them more a general guide on how to live your life: be a good person, don't kill, steal, etc. i don't think a supreme creator really cares if you eat meat on certain days of the year or not. and do you think the creator of the universe really has that big of an ego? does God really require all the worshipping, sacrifices, money, etc. that most religions would have you offer? does the church/mosque/temple need to be a giant costly work of art to get God's attention? a simple place to gather, talk about religion, and say some prayers would work, wouldn't it? i just think there's a lot of B.S. involved in organized religion. when i got married (got married in a Catholic ceremony to please wife's elderly parents), i had to sign a paper saying if we had kids, they would be raised Catholic - yeah right! just put on your costume, put on the big "Catholic show" and marry us already. oh yeah, here's your check. alright, i'm done.
