Well that was quick...

I received my AutoFest registration in the mail yesterday. Actually, I had no idea what it was - the envelope was hand-addressed and the return was 'City Center Corporation' or something. I didn't notice 'AutoFest' written above the return until after I pulled out the Evansville brochure.

So are we going to be the only people there showing cars that are less than ten years old? I mean, the SVX never fails to impress, but I get the impression we're going to be parked next to a Model T or a Studebaker!

Hmmm. Interesting. I just live 40 miles away and haven't gotten mine yet. Yeah, we'll probably be the youngest cars there, but, what the heck. One of the reasons we registered together is so we could all look "rediculous" as a group. But, actually, Steve Wasion told me that they let him drive along in the "cruise" even though he wasn't regestered last year, merely because they though his car was neat. Hmmm, wait 'til they see four of us.

See, it's my experience that people dig the car because it's unique. And it's a damned fine car.

Remember the guy at Shelbourne Farms in front of their inn? The M5 owner who wouldn't stop asking questions.

I remember that guy. Of course, my favorite question (which came from a couple of different sources) was, "Are you guys makin' a commercial or somethin'?"

Cool

I guarantee we won't have the newest cars there. Last year there were several jazzed-up Neons and Civics and such. There was also a large contingent of Impala SS's and stuff like that. This is not one of those snooty "If you ain't drivin' a '49 or older you deserve to die" shows (although lots of older cars will be there). This show is for car fanatics - of all colors and sizes. Like the guy in his seventies with a new PT Cruiser that he had trimmed out with chrome tape and stuff. Man - he was proud of his 'Hot Rod' - and it was a lot of fun seeing him stoked and hangin' with the go fast boys.

It's sort of a retro-cruising-high school-greaser thing, except most of us will be too old (and too married) to do the things we were too scared to do back then.

Well maybe not as a group, but when everyone sees the Hardee's star on Aredub's antenna, the spring-mounted hula girl on his back deck, and the curb whiskers on his custom fender skirts, they might request that he park over next to the Edsels... Don
