unused 1year8mo nstart in 1go

amazingly,my 92svx in nz,137,918km,after my departed in feb2011,
just havtnt got time to visit until 20oct2012,
when i connect back the negative pole of the battery,
it started in one click without any problem, isnt that good God's work.

I had to started in neutral though, cos my neutral swicth at the gear box
is malfuctioned, thanks to this club that i read years ago, that if u cannot
start in park, try start in neutral.

This time got a bit more clu,cos the first time i started in park, the
battery went dead,n afterthat no even lights showed on the intru panel,
when i turn on the key,so i figure must be the gear box that cut off the power. So,I disconnect the battery n reconnected it to reset it,
then,the lights come back on,
I then switch gear to neutral, turn key on n off 2 times,(to try to
initiate some fuel pump or somethings that I read)
then I switch all the way the third time n it started in 1 go,
n auto maintained at 1500rev,,
afterthat,it just ran fine.

So,if anyone started dead in park, try disconnect n reconnect the battery,
n try starts in neutral....
if it starts, its the neutral switch problem just like mine..
So,from now on I just have to starts in neutral all the time,,

Any,suggestion of how much it will cost to fix that switch?

sorry for writing too long, but I just want to share this amazing svx
experience.
(my other 1999 audi A6 4.2 120,000km even started in 3rd go)
nothing compare to SVX,
and before this,I left about 6 months every year for 3 years,
andit all started in 1 go every time..my good SVX

If someone can confirm that the inhibitor switch on the gearbox is the same as US models, I can send you one for the cost of shipping.

It is relatively easy to change out as it is on the right side of the transmission towards the bottom. held in by a few 8mm screws/bolts and the shifter cable just has to be disconnected from the side of the transmission first.

Also to note, I have started up SVXes that have sat neglected out in the elements for 4-5 years and they always fire right up. They are great cars!

It does sound like the P contact on the inhibitor switch is bad, but I think your recent problem may have been the negative terminal being dirty.

Harvey.
