Ticking noise

I have a ticking noise that is louder until it warms up. It is always there but not very loud except on startup. It has been like this since i got the car (about a year and half ago) but i didnt notice it as much because the exhuast was really loud. Now that it is quiet, i can hear every little thing. I cant hear it from the inside unless i roll down the window. It runs great. I know noone can say what it is without hearing it but what i want to know is are the cars prone to any certain tick? Thanks.

Re: Ticking noise

I've been driving Subarus since 1986 and conclude a faint, rhythmic sewing-machine-in-need-of-oil sound is perfectly normal for a smoothly-idling engine. Keyword: faint. Taps or thunks are another matter.

Once heard an awful tap from my Legacy, and no wonder; turned out a spark plug had begun to back out.

Re: Ticking noise

The sewing machine in need of oil is exactly it, but when it i could, it is louder. Nothing really loud, banging or thumping, just ticking and it idles perfectly. Thanks.

Re: Ticking noise

i tried this and it worked for me gumming up of the valve lifters
you need to get the crude out to get it to stop ticking here is what i used
will not add to every oil change but if it start to tick again i will add more.

Re: Ticking noise

I would also highly suggest Lubegard Motor Oil Protectant.
