Melting fuses

Heres one I have not come across yet, the fuse for my left radiator fan melts the plastic part on the positive side of the plugin, it doesn't blow and is still completing the circuit and allowing the fan to run normally. the spec calls for 25w fuse thats whats in there, so any electrical gurus out there have an idea??
Thanks .............G

Re: Melting fuses

Poor ground or some poor positive side connection. When electricity has a path but not a clear path of correct wiring it results in lots of heat. I'd first suspect that the fuse block connections has issues as that's where it melted but in reality it could be anywhere in that circuit.

Re: Melting fuses

Heat generated at a specific point within a circuit, indicates high resistance at that point. The most likely problem is that the contact pressure is weak, or possibly the contact surfaces are dirty. Once heat is generated, the hardened spring like contact material can become permanently softened, but not always. Try bending the contacts to increase the pressure.

Alternatively a loose connection if very close to and involving the hot spot, could be the culprit.

AWESOME, thanks for the input guys, the fuse base is very dirty and not real tight because of some previous problem, I will attempt to correct those issues, I learned some more today from this board, THANKS..................G
