92 spoiler paint type
I've prepped my spoiler for repaint and noticed the black paint coming off on the sandpaper, which indicate its not clear coat, like the rest of the car. Now i'm not sure what type of paint to use. Anyone know what type of paint was used origionally? I guess it could be single stage urethane or lacquer. I want to use a compatable type of paint.

Re: 92 spoiler paint type
The spoiler is made out of fiberglass. I know some people have used the same paint used on the car. If that is the case, clear coat would be used.

Re: 92 spoiler paint type
Whatever they used sucks! If it didn't, every svx wouldn't need it's spoiler repainted. Maybe it was Krylon. Go with a base & clear.

Re: 92 spoiler paint type
My spoiler, roof, and trunk all have the black paint in rather bad condition while the silver is all in very nice shape (the areas where it wasn't refinished and repainted)

Not wishing to sound preachy, but if you are repainting and can improve on the original where it obviously needs improvement, then improve it. My advice because it is black paint and absorbs the most energy [heat] from the sun of any paint colour, make sure you use a top coat that has a lot of UV filter in the paint. Give it two or more coats of this. The deeper the coat the better it will look, and the deeper and more effective will be your UV filtering coat. For reference purposes from 92 onwards the Subaru code for solid black is 204. Do a good job on it. Joe

Re: 92 spoiler paint type
I am experimenting with Rustoleum Black Applicance Epoxy paint. It is a nice tough finish and has decent self-leveling properties. I just did one coat on my rear trunk lid and am about to do another coat once these stinking fires are put out.
