Did the Saab 9^5 update the SVX dash theme? - 56k not advised, big pics...

The new Saab 9^5 just came out... and the pictures look decent.

But am I the only one who thinks that the dash is a logical update of the SVX's layout? (not that the turned-L shaped dash is exclusive to just those two cars...)

And I badly wish more cars employed HUD systems...

I would also love to see some of the lighting effects on my fictional 2012 SVX 20th-anniversary resurrection ... I love the optic light-pipe tail lights front markers, and mirror signals...

Now if Subaru could only build a fantastic GT Coupe, with sleek, dignified style, unlike most of their newly designed offerings.

Opinions on the 9^5, or what other cars have things that resemble SVX, or what SVX should be resurrected with...

I figure a little flight of fiction, or discussing new cars has to be more cheerful than continuing to discuss C4C and wasting existing SVXs...

I LOVE IT! Perhaps it'll be put together well since GM's hands aren't in it anymore.

The knobs on the vents in the dash control the direction of the air.

The knobs move on a gimball, from what I can tell, up, down, and side to side, on a ball joint. they might rotate like a knob to shut off airflow, as well... A bit different than some, but I think it is nicely functional and unique.

They direct moveable vanes behind the fixed horizontal vanes that go across the driver's side of the dash.

The vents in my saab, and every saab for the last 20 years, as far as I know, are like that.

It looks nice, but i really do not care for the front end grill of saab's. they just rub me wrong for some reason. Still, interior is very nice looking.

The gauges and layout look good. Not too keen on the plastic egg crate (or what ever you call it) a/c vents and their extension above the instrument cluster. Looks a bit cheap to me & would be a ***** to keep clean. Don't see the paddle shifts in the photos, but the 9-5 has a really nice system which would be wonderful in an SVX.

It's just the general cockpit look. Lots of cars have it but this is eirily simular with the cut offs to the center peices. Tribeca and the new Forester are like this. I think the new Legacy to but I don't remember. But yeah cockpit.... SAAB... "built from jets" or what ever....

you can't compare the dash to an SVX one...it is missing the radio door flappy thing.

That is a sexy car but my first impression of it in the one pic screamed Jetta.

what engine does it have??? what is TTiD4 or whatever that thing said on the back?

Re: Did the Saab 9^5 update the SVX dash theme? - 56k not advised, big pics...

Actually, I am not sure... But I can guess...

TT is likely twin turbo, possibly, maybe even likely sequential turbos.
i is likely fuel injected, kind of an old hold-over, like BMW still uses.
D is probably diesel. with the TTi, likely a twin turbo, common rail injection diesel.
4 is probably an indicator haldex 4-wheel, or what we call all wheel drive.

That is not to say that such a drivetrain would be available in the US, where diesel powerplants aren't as welcomed... but this probably is the debut Swedish/EU market version.

Most new cars don't meld the dash panel, and the center console into an inverted, turned L-shape anymore.

Tribeca has a swoopy dash, and I would love an SVX with the three-LCD dial climate control interface...

The new Impreza, Forester, and '10 Legacy all have distinct intrument clusters with deep hoods, and separate consoles, even if the surface development of the dash ties the two together, they are distinct from each other.

The new Legacy and Outback, like the JDM Exiga, have a very prominent, vertical large, tall center console. I think it looks tacky, like a kiosk in a mall, not the dash of a car... but that is just me.

The BL Legacy has a definitely distinct center stack, and separated gauge cluster... with very nice Electroluminescent gauges, which the new car lost, among other things...

Audi's R8 sort of has the wrap-around dash, A4 and A5 do.

There are aspects of the BL Legacy dash, and even a couple of details from the Tribeca dash that I wish I could combine into a new SVX... But the 9^5 dash has more of the turned-L style wrap around dash like the SVX does.

Enough that when I saw the pictures at first, it seemed familiar to me.

I also thought that the Saab's full width air registers on either side of the gauges, bear some resemblance to old porsche dashboards... like 944 and 968, and later air-cooled 911 generations. Not a carbon copy, and Saab has a tradition with that, too... but good design tends to be good design.
