Re: wheel hop after trany replacement
Sounds like your tranny is binding

Re: wheel hop after trany replacement
Agreed, its binding up. Have you tried putting in the FWD fuse and see if that prevents it?

Re: wheel hop after trany replacement
I had a rebuilt trans and it gave these kind of symptoms when "fresh"
This is how the trans engineer cured the problem: In a safe enclosed yard he ran the car very quickly up and down the yard in forward and reverse. Not quite standing quarter launch, but smartish. A good number of times. Then he did the figure of eight for a bit in both directions. The theory behind it is the new friction materials on the clutches have not smoothed in to their normal working state. Giving them a bit of a hard run in all directions helps them to bed in and get smooth. If you still have problems after doing this, you might need to go back to the guy and have him check the electric clutch pack at the rear of the box. Hope this helps Joe

Re: wheel hop after trany replacement
Thanks guys, I should have mentioned that the trany I just put in was from my parts car I had. the trany was rebuilt 10k ago ( motor ran out of oil, son never checked it) & it worked fine when parked. It has to do with the revolutions of 1 wheel to another. (inside wheel turns less revelutions than the outside one). Remember now the first time I had rebuilt the trany the tech told me the same thing do figure 8's but did'nt explain why.

Re: wheel hop after trany replacement
What waa the parts car? Do the final drive gears match the rear?

Re: wheel hop after trany replacement
IF both the parts car and the daily driver are from SOA, i.e. North American market, then both will have the same rear drive ratio, the transmissions remained the same for all years as supplied in North America.
However, as you are in Canada, should one of your vehicles be of Japanese origin, JDM as we say, then the final drive will definitely be different in that case and they won't match. Joe

Re: wheel hop after trany replacement
I'm having this problem with my 4.44's
But it's not the AWD that is binding, its the front diff. While making sharp, parking lot speed turns the front diff starts to bind and makes an awful noise. While turning onto gravel the outside wheel will spin fine, but the inside wheel almost seems to lock up. AWD is working fine. Should I try the figure 8 trick aswell? This symptom never showed up until after taking some very tight turns. Thanks for the help! Dustin
