Tranny leak?

Hello all,
I'm thinking about buying this 91 SVX, but it leaks tranny fluid. The owner says he replaced the pan gasket and siliconed around the dipstick tube, but it still leaks and he doesn't know where. He said it only leaks when ideling.
Any ideas or comments? I did notice a little smoke coming from the back of the engine driver side. Are these prone to leak?
Thanks, Scott

Well your first problem is that he sold you a "91." Yes may have been built in 91, but they were sold as a 92, so really there is no such thing as a 91 in the US. Maybe the seal between the tranny and engine?

Re: Tranny leak?

Check the little hoses that go from the transmission to the hard lines on the bottom of the engine. It sounds like that's your issue.

Re: Tranny leak?

He did say it was a 92, but I thought he was off cause the door tag says 9/91.

A gear box that early, may have more problems in store, due to the faults that they had. A latter box, 94 on, would be a better proposition, as they were modified to reduce the problems.

Harvey.
