That doesn't surprise me - as the SVX was such a slow seller in Australia, many of them would have sat around for months after they arrived from Japan before the compliance plates were fitted.

Since that SVX you looked at was built in mid 1993, it probably would have been one of those versions fitted with a driver's airbag, but no passenger airbag.

It is a shame - there were several good SVXs for sale over the last 12 months, but none at the moment (apart from SVX-96 that is!)

I wish you the best of luck in your search - if you can find a good one, then hold onto it!!!!

Jason.

There is a red 95 in Brisbane. 205,000km. Going to check it out. It is the newest available, although I do like the black roofed 92-94's! Ahhhh!

Still looking...

Hi Brady

I see that the hunt is on! Many years ago (!) I was in the same boat - all I can say is buy the best one that you can afford and hold out for the right car. Many times I was tempted by ones that were 'compromises' but in the end, I ended up with the right car. If I had my time back again, I would still have bought it (now in the safe hands of Jason).

Of course, if the yellow one from the Central Coast was to pop back up again.......

Talking I found one!

Hey all!

I take delivery of my red 92 in a few days!!

Very, very special thanks to Tony "Dessertrunner".

Thanks Tony, your expertise have proved invaluable in my quest for a great SVX.

This may mortify you but I am already planning a new audio system...

A Dual Din DVD/CD/GPS etc 7" screen - Hopefully it will fit in the SVX's double din aperture.

Anyone attempted an install of such gadgetry in OZ?

Mike

Mike I think thats a great idea the current stero is old and a pain in the ass. You will need the wire colours which is in the "How to". Good luck with your new toy.

It's funny that you mention that.........

...because back in 2006, I personally installed a Kenwood double-DIN touch screen DVD/CD/MP3 player into my SVX.

I decided to tackle the job myself - as I didn't trust anyone else to install it in my SVX!

Removing the old stereo is fairly easy - the plastic trim around the stereo (behind the door) unclips to reveal two screws, and the plastic trim on the rear of the stereo door unclips to reveal two more.

From there, the stereo and door come out as a single unit.

As I could not find an adapter which allows the wiring loom on the new stereo to directly connect to the old plug, I used 3M Scotch-Lok connectors to splice the new plug into the old wiring loom. This enabled me to keep the old plug sattached to the loom, so that I could easily install the old stereo at a later date.

From there, the new stereo screws into the metal housing (attached to the door) and slides back in.

You need to be careful when you slide the housing into and out of the dash, to make sure that it does not catch on or scratch any of the trim surrounding it (it is a tight fit!)

You will need to do some measurements, to ensure that the stereo door will still close and open properly when the new stereo is installed. As well, if your new stereo is of the type where the screen slides down and out to reveal the disc slot, check to see if the screen is not blocked by the plastic trim on the reverse side of the stereo door. In my case, I found that the screen could not slide out fully when the stereo was in place, because the screen was hitting that piece of trim.

The solution that I came up with was to allow the stereo door to open slightly more than usual. I simply modified the door hinge mechanism so that the door could drop slightly further before the hinge reached its stop point.

I also had to cut a very small section out of the plastic trim on the back of the stereo door.

The unit that I chose had green illumination for the buttons, which perfectly matches the other interior controls!

As well, it has a dimmer input, which can be connected to the original wiring loom - this allows the display to dim with the other instruments when the lights are turned on - but it returns to full brightness when you push the "Bright" control on the end of the turn signal stalk!

The end result was an installation that looks factory original..........

.......even James thought so!!!

Thanks!

Hey fellow Aussie SVX lovers.

The plates on my 92 which I get this week are AIA-48G (NSW).

If you see me around, say hi!

Wow...they tracked him down?

I knew that they were looking for the car as the other one had apparently been crashed and written off.

I can only imagine what they paid as it was the rarest of the SVX's and looked absolutely stunning.

At least it is being preserved.

Cheers

James
