Rear Diff/Axles ???
I want to just use the Impreza differential for my 5spd swap since it is a direct bolt up minus the fact its not a LSD and the SVX rear axles will not work.
I thought I could just get axles from the donor car ('99 Impreza RS) but they are a tad shorter and the outside end is way to small! I remember reading some axles would work...can't remember which cars. I need to know if the early Legacy ('90-94) rear halfshafts have the same outer end as the SVX. As I said the '99 RS shafts I bought do not even come close to fitting. Thanks |

You should swap the gears from the Impreza diff into the SVX diff. That way you get to keep your LSD (but with matching ratios) and use stock SVX axles.

well I'm trying to avoid spending an extra $500 having the rear diff set up by losing the LSD feature.
I don't plan on driving the car in the winter so I doubt I'll notice much loss. I just need to know about those axles. |

Hi
I swapped the rear diff ring and pinion myself with a mechanic friend that does em, we found it to be easy and required no shimming, direct swap. The time I drove my car before the trans died it was like I never touched it. my .02cents. |

I hope someone who has done what I intend to do reads this thread. The junk yard I get my parts from is over 100 miles away...so its not like I can just drive down the road and compare them.
Anyone?? |
