Let's do some testing. I think I am going to part out the white SVX. I need more parts for my 94 anyways so till all the parts are gone, I can rip and change things on the white one. I'll try to call you as soon as my phone is up and running.

Phillips Cool Blue

Lwin,

Where did you get the Phillips Cool Blues at? And how much did they cost you?

Lucky you! At Meijer it's $13 for a bulb and at Autozone it's $14-15 for one. The K-Mart that WAS a minute away from my house closed down, so that's out of the question. =P

I'm tired of the cheap Xenon bulbs I bought from Target (a pair for $15). Oh, they are a nice blue color, but they are NOT bright at all. They'll get me noticed, but what's the use if I can't see much ahead of the car at night time? I think Cool Blue's are going to be the next thing I get for the car. I was weary of buying them before because I did not know how good they looked!

I really should clean those headlights sometime soon, too.

I just bought a set of 9005 and 9006 slyvanias superstars (what ever there called) just today and install them.. NO "cool blue" no xenon.. just a really bright bulb that uses the same watted as stock i have been more than satisfied and i have only driven them for one night..

Just a idea

The easy solution to not using hids are to use modify 9005 bulbs to fit and it works pretty well as long as you aim them correctly. It works well for me and doesnt blind oncoming drivers.

I have tried lots of bulbs and have never been satisfied with the light. I could understand why members were looking at HID and other alternatives. Well, a while back I installed the Cool Blue 9005s (modified so they will fit the socket) and I could not be happier. I have been happy ever sense. They are fine even with the additional power because of the projector lights. The cut off line is still good. I have not been flashed yet, and I can see like never before. I found mine dirt cheap too. I tried the Silverstars too, and they are not as good as the Cool Blues. Just my opinion, and if anyone else has tried this, please comment. I know Chicane tried these too and was very happy.

What sort of modifications are required? Easy, hard? Dremel required?

All that is required is a dremel. There are two little ridges in the light which keeps you from putting the wrong light on the low beam plug (which is what you want to do) lol and if you grind it off, then it can be plugged in. I will try to get a couple of pictures for you.

I did this mod, for the most part. Couldnt get Cool Blues. I tried it with the GE Super Blue 9005 lights. I also had to do more than just the eletrical plug modifications (the two ridges). I also had to take an 1/8 of an inch off one of the leaf tabs peventing it from being inserted into the low beam hole. Pictures will follow.

I am running Siverstars for my low beams and Cool Blues for my high beams. I tried the Cool Blues for my low beams, but like the silverstars better. I really like the visibility with the silverstar low beams coupled with the cool blue high beams.

My little how to

Well, here is what I had to do in order to install a GE Super Blue 9005 bulb into my SVX on the low beam side.

Hope it helps. I love the nice white hot look instead of the nasty puke yellow halogen.
