John

p.s This is the kit from Harvey in Australia and not the Small car kit.

Re: QUICK SHIFT on ebay

Thanks John, hmmm I would want to know a bit more before I fitted one.
Is it a micro-controller or a box of relays ? Since nothing is ever free I wonder what sort of battle is going on between the two competing control systems ?

The weird shifting is an acquired taste on the SVX, I did read somewhere they used Fuzzy Logic to determine the shifts (very 1980's) and that is why after an hour cruising on the motorway the damn thing will not allow you to accelerate without flooring the throttle. After driving it for so long my brain has been remapped, so I anticipate needing to floor it.

I cant think of anything I would want to replace it with.

Yours is a 96 isn't it? Maybe that's a feature of the later models. I haven't seen anything like that in the TCU programming on the early models. The UK shift plan looks like this.

http://www.alcyone.org.uk/ssm/tcureverse.html

I have invented a new trick feature for the UK cars. It's a change to the TCU programming so that you can engage power mode by double clicking the Manual button. Then double click it again to go back to Normal mode.

I built it for Silverspear to thank him for letting me borrow his Middle East version ECU.

I fitted it and didn't like it, not to say it's no good but would suit those who are looking for a more 'spirited' ride.

I have come to the conclusion that the SVX suits me fine the way Subaru intended, and to keep it running in these times of £1.35 lt 4* ...... no more lead boots!

Re: QUICK SHIFT on ebay

Phil, its a 97 car, you had seen Gez's silver 97 one so it will be the same s/w Rev as that. I used to drive past it most days, but I think he has moved so I dont know what happened to the car.

The shift on mine has always been the same, I did email you with a description of it a couple of years ago I think. It fits the Fuzzy Logic strategy I read about.

I also have a an Auto Forester (2005, 156bhp) and that is a how it should be, it responds to throttle angle and rate of change perfectly.

John, I wondered if you had tried it, the fact we are still driving these things says enough about them. I still have the 350Z for sunny days !

I have scratches on my bonnet, I think I polished it with a cloth that had grit on it - doh. Its not so bad, but the rest of the paint is like new, so if you see a green one being broken, I might have the bonnet off it.

Re: QUICK SHIFT on ebay

Arthur,

Try 3M IMPERIAL HAND GLAZE on yer bonnet......it REALLY is what the professionals use. Bought off ebay for next to nowt, it fills in all those swirl marks and light scratches that TCUT fails on.
Build it up a few times and then top coat it with good ol Autoglym!

Worth a try and keeps the car original.....

Weird how we go from QC's to polishing bonnets

John

Digressed onto Polish

John, thanks for the tip, well I was about to buy it on ebay for about £19 delivered and I thought I'd it, big mistake.

So then I find a load of review sites, I wish I had just bought it. See this bloke who has used gallons of it (or so he says): http://bit.ly/mZU3Ki

What is interesting is that when I tried to polish it with Carnuba wax (sounds like a sex aid) I get this hazy dull patch, but the expert above puts this down to it being too hot, maybe it was. So what sort of magic gunk do I use to reverse that ?

I suppose I could get chipsaway to look at it.

Re: QUICK SHIFT on ebay

That's serious stuff Arthur, real anal anorak!

Quite simply,

3M hand glaze.....Autoglym Super Resin.....Autoglym Hi Gloss Sealer

I'm a big believer in TCUT to freshen up paint work, used very lightly and just the once.......for idiot's you can also get SAFECUT

John

ps, the result....
