Oil Pan
Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to tighten the rear bolts on the oil pan? Every car I've owned oil leaks from around the gasket on the back side of the pan and these bolts are next to impossible to tighten without raising the engine. Any ideas?

I would make sure it's the pan. It could be the front cam/crank seal that is just blowing to the back of the engine and it could be valve cover gaskets.
I assume that the pan has never been off your car. I think the pan uses RTU or equal from the factory. That stuff is like glue. I really doubt if that is leaking. The bolt head is 10mm and there are special 1/4' drive sockets that have a universal built into the socket. Very compact size for getting around the tight spots. always loosen before tightening and if the bolt is rusty it could break. The SVX oil pan is very stiff. It is glue'ed to the block for additional strength of the block assembly in my opinion. I would not use RTV. I would use the same stuff as found on it. Hardening Permatex. |
