Turning off Security System
The manual says that by pressing the "security" button on the dash, the system will be turned off. After pressing, the red light still blinks. The button does not stay down when pressed. Should it stay depressed after pressing to turn the system off?
If this does not turn off the system, is it best just to remove the fuse in the trunk? Any suggestions much appreciated. (1995 LSI) |

Re: Turning off Security System
The Security button does not stay depressed..pushing it once should arm and red light in switch will be lite, pushing it again will disarm with button and red light off. If this doesn't occur, it sounds like the switch itself is at fault, making poor contact internally like the cruise dash button often does. Playing with the Security button, on/off, on/off doesn't help?

Re: Turning off Security System
When the SECURITY button is pressed, a red LED lights up to show that it is on and ready to be armed. Pressing the button again causes the LED to go off, indicating the system cannot be armed.
With the key out of the ignition and the security system active, the red LED should blink quickly (about once every 1.5 sec.) to indicate it is on. Once you arm it with your remote, the LED should blink more slowly (about once every 4-5 sec.) Sounds like a bad switch. Can you arm the security system with the remote? Why do you want to turn it off? The fuse for the security system is built into the security module. In 92-93 it is located behind the glove box. In the 94-97 it in the trunk under the speaker shelf close to the driver side rear speaker. There is a little flap that lowers so you can access it. If it's working properly, the red light will be continuously blinking and when you lock the doors and leave the car it will arm about 30 seconds later automatically. .

Re: Turning off Security System
Just replaced batteries in fob (all 8 of them) and system works fine.
But fiddling with dash button does nothing, won't turn off, guess it is a faulty switch. Wanted to turn it off so as not to drain battery if car is not driven for long periods. Thanks for both replies. |
