Re: Rejoining the flock
Some of the information that would help in any coolant issue is;
Is the car overheating? Yes when the coolant all flows into the overflow tank the car gets hot.. but only at stops.. when driving 80mph for 350mi the temp gauge stays pegged in the middle Are both of the electric radiator fans working? "yes the fans are working as they should" Is the top radiator too hot to keep your hand on? normally yes.. though when the coolant has left No.. when the coolant is in the overflow i can open the radiator at any time without any pressure or steam Is the bottom radiator hose cold when the top hose is hot? i have not yet had the opportunity to check When you squeese the upper rad hose when the engine is cold, does the coolant rush into the over flow? no

Re: Rejoining the flock
Thank you Jeremy,
"Is the car overheating? Yes when the coolant all flows into the overflow tank the car gets hot.. but only at stops.. when driving 80mph for 350mi the temp gauge stays pegged in the middle" I wonder if there is an obstruction in front of the AC condenser/radiator, in front of the electric fans? A bird or some leaves restricting air flow?

" i allow the coolant to then flow back into the radiator and all is well for a period of time until it decides to do it again."
I assume that it flows back into the radiator IF you have not taken the rad cap off, after several hours to cool down?

Re: Rejoining the flock
it flows quite rapidly back into the radiator when i remove the rad cap.. the only time its gotten hot was after 400+ miles of driving... i've been using it around town lately with no drama.. its still trapping the coolant.. but significantly less of it with equally less driving (obviously). the radiator is new, the hoses are new, the rad cap is new, i have a replacement expansion tank to install, the only other thing i can think of is the thermostat possibly (could be missing, stuck, or its been suggested may be installed backwards?) still looking for responses on the hub vs. bearing issue... i know bearings are common but i am not aware of the standard procedure to deal with them. ie; hub vs. just the bearing itself.

Normally the overflow goes back into the radiator with the rad cap still installed becaust the cooling, cooling system is causing a vacuum to pull the coolant back into the rad/hoses/engine.

I have the car on a lift so that I am using the slide hammer above my shoulder and can be accurate. To pull the bearings I use to take it a machine shop, but now that I have a "hub Tamer" (and a twenty ton press) I only go to a machine shop if (on Legacys) the thing won't budge. Never saw this on an SVX.
