Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

So I'm curious as to the fortunate members here whom have had prolonged driving pleasures without the excitement of costly repairs.

Care to explain how many miles / years etc. you've owned the SVX before you ran into an issue? (from ball bearing failure, transmission failure all the way to the engine blowing up ).

This isn't to complain about the issues that arise with SVX ownership as it is just to seek a general idea of those who have had nothing but solid positives with his or her SVX.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

I've put about 26,000 miles on one and 55,000 on the other, have never been stranded, and have experienced very few "uh-oh" moments. (Had an ALT/PS belt mysteriously fly to pieces once—fortunately, almost within sight of home.) Both cars go months without requiring anything other than routine attention to tires and fluids. But hey, they're old cars and there's always gonna be some little thing or three on the to-do list.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

My car is pretty much constantly in need of something, but for the most part they're minor things. A parking brake cable, window regulator... The vast majority of what I do with my car is preventative and preemptive work. It looks like a lot on paper but really hasn't been an issue.

0. My car has always had some sort of minor issue or two from the day I bought it over three years ago.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

Issue is a broad term.

I daily drove my Claret for about a year and a half, without breaking down and without a mechanical failure. Sure, during that time it needed brakes and a wheel bearing, but thats relatively minor.

1 A/C idler pulley and Hi-pressure switch. Only problems I have had with my 92 since I bought it a yr ago. But it does only have 88k miles on it.

Needing brakes is relatively minor?

I know what you mean, but it just sounds funny.

I agree though, "issue" is very relative. My SVX has never been perfect, but it has also never really stranded me. All the dozens of little things that it has needed aside (which are more routine wear and tear on a 200K+ car and maintenance), the big three would be transmission failure (under warranty and I still was able to drive it home 5 miles), U-joint shattered (limped to my Subaru specialist where I was already headed when it happened), and headgasket failure (drove it very gently for 2 or 3 months and kept filling the radiator until YT came out West and fixed it).

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

Always scared I'll jinx myself but, 25,000 miles with planned wheel bearing change, unplanned power stering hose coming loose, leak in defective ss breakline I installed. Still have to deal with the bad rear struts and a tach that is too lazy to show over 1000 rpm.

no major problems in over 7 years of ownership other than same number of batteries.

Yea, that is what I meant. Brakes and such are a given. I mean more major issues... not windows refusing to roll down or the radio not working

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

About 6 months seems to be average for me. Usually it is not anything major, just a part or two that goes bad. Bad alternator, a bad MAF, a bad coil, a bad radiator, or bad random solenoid etc.

I have gone for 11 years with nothing that has stopped the car. Pads, bad spark plug, wheel bearings, leaking Air Con condersor. So far so good.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

Brake pads are NOT an issue , they are regular maintenance, as well as belts, hoses , fluid changes, tires, light bulbs, etc.

These are so obvious they shouldn't have had to be posted.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

I put about 104K mostly-highway miles over 12 years on my '92 as the second owner -from about 58K to 162K: never a breakdown and never needed any drivetrain work except for the trans cooler that the first owner installed. It's the longest I've ever owned a car and, reliability and low maintenance cost were the primary explanations. I drove the car as hard as any car I've driven although I never used the manual mode. I put on a new exhaust system at about 70K, brakes at about 100K, and wheel bearings at about 130 or 140K. I replaced the first bulbs on the car at about 155K. The visor was replaced at about 150K and the windshield at about 160K. Other than that, a set of Yokohamas at about 80K and Michelins at about 130K, and 4 or 5 antenna masts from forgetting to lower them at car washes. I put on a big chunk of the miles during a two-year period when I had to commute 200 mi. a day, 3 days a week: The SVX got 27 mpg with the excellent climate control running and earned the right to ride about 80 percent of those miles.

Re: Longest amount of time without an issue on your SVX?

Always seemed to be an issue with my old claret...but I've been driving my silver daily for about 1 year. It had a lot of work done when I first got it, but I've only had to replace 2 alternators in the time I've had it. I'm currently about 200 miles away from 100k, it was at around 84k when I got it, so I've been essentially problem free for about 26k miles.
