Re: NEW Engine Idea For the SVX!

What I've never understood is why they don't mate a diesel and an electric motor, similar to the gas/electric hybrids we have now. Amazing highway mileage + low emissions around town... Why not??

Which hybrids? The ones that switch back and forth or the Volt style ones that are eletric motors juiced by a internal combustion one? I like the Volt style but there are so many reasons I HATE the typical hybrid...
Totally agree on the diesel though. So much torque to generate electricity!

What they call it a vanity-plate. Shouldn't I be obligated to be vane with it?
Rota Tarmac 3's 18x8" on 245/40/18 Dunlop SP Sport 600's, Perrin light weight crank pulley, PRW radiator, custom coilovers(not GC's), 9006 HID 4300k 50W low beams, DIY garage door lip, and SVXfiles brake kit. Fixxed exhaust so no more sweet sound.

Because us stupid Americans think that diesels are horrible polluting motors that are unreliable and a pain to deal with in cold temps.... Pretty much because of the diesels we had here in the 80's and people relish in the past.

VW DIESELS FTW!!!

Yeah not those ones... the Volt style is where hybrids needed to be from the start but the technology wasn't there on the electric motor end really till now. Eletric powertrain with a internal combustion eletric generator is where it's at.

Absolutely. One of the big reasons cars are so inefficient is because they have to work over a huge rev range. With a generator, you fine tune everything to run at a given RPM and you get low emissions with a lot of output
