Broke something need info
I was removing my intake yesterday and I broke the hose connection (and the cover over it and apparently craked the radiator too when the hood closed its self) in the center of the drivers side on the intake tube. It runs to midway under the intake on the drivers side. It has a pretty strong vacuum to it and I was wondering what its for and if itll hurt anything by being off?

If you run an engine with a sizable vacuum leak, you can ruin your engine!!!!!
If you do this and the engine runs lean and can burn the valves!! Can you post a picture of the crack so we see what hose/part it is? If it is only a hose, then you can replace it with another hose, but please dont run it with a vacuum leak!

the only trick is that it would otherwise be sucking from the intake rather than the engine bay air....Pull off the top half cover and go to the driverside and look at the center of the tube that connects to the throttle bodys. And now that I have light its not so much broke looking but just out.

Well this is one time I'm saying screw fixing it But the car has been running better overall it even shifts slightly better at all speeds and all gears So I'm gonna put some tape over the hole in the intake tube and just let the other tube hang. Oh and the Air/fuel statement well it was probably leaning everything out anyways pulling all that air from the intake tube(rather small hole though) and I will be considering this the cheapest power mod yet.

i think i know what u are talking about and its the fat hose. now u might not get suction from the hose off the intake. the air being sucked in by the tb i think makes the pressure. have the car on and put your finger over the hose to see if a vacuum happens. also follow the hose and see what u are not going to have working before running strong. i dont have my chiltons manual with me or i would look it up.

Its strong vacuum at any RPM and like I said it goes to the center under the intake manifold on the drivers side (iris valve?)
Edit: this pic its refer to fig 036a... http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...ategory=073A-1 as soon as I find that Ill post link/ figure out what im killin/fixing Yep Iris valve shown here at the bottom between intake runners http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...ategory=050A-1 How bad is that?

If you're not going to fix it at least plug the hole. It's letting in unmetered air and will definately cause the engine to run lean.
