OT: Legacy wheels

Okay, this is a pain in the ass. I have my wife's Legacy up on stands so I can change the oil, replace the belts and rotate the tires.

The stupid wheels (steelies) are always stuck on the car. What the hell? Every time I want to pull a wheel on this car I have to use a gear puller.

Anybody else ever run into this? I'd put some anti-sieze or even some lithium grease on the hub surface, but it'd just burn off from the heat of the brakes anyway.

I thought you could use anti-seiz on header studs, if so I think it would hold up to brake heat.

I've used anti-seize compound with good results. Never burns away, at least not the suff I've used - which isn't anything special, just that silvery-looking stuff. Smear a real thin coat on the mating surfaces. It lasts a long time.

I've had to beat the wheels off my old wagon a number of times with a sledge hammer.
Interestingly enough, I've never had this problem again after I moved to the south. Hmmm.

I imagine living in a more temperate climate has somthing to do with it. It's just odd - I've never had this problem getting wheels off a car before. I've certainly never had to use a gear puller before.

One of them was so stubborn that I tightened up my gear puller as far as I could and then whacked the back of the wheel with a rubber mallet. It came off with so much force, and such a loud bang, that the wheel literally flew off the car and landed a couple feet away.

No hammer solution:

Before jacking the car slightly loosen all the nuts and then rock the car side to side. Proceed to jack the car and wheels will come off no problem.

Had that happen on I 91 at 2:00 AM a State Cop stopped and tried to remove them finally had to call a repair service, the guy showed up with something you would love to have at the DRAGS. I think you could rebuild an engine in the back if it. He beat it off with a sledge hammer .
