master brake cylinder swap

As I started to drive out of my driveway, today, I lost all brakes. I haven't had time to check it out but loss of all brakes is normally a master brake cylinder failure. I have a spare master cylinder from a 05 STI. Will it directly swap to the SVX or even if it fits, is it up to the task of exerting enough pressure to effectively stop the SVX?

Re: master brake cylinder swap

ANY leak in the brake system will cause all braking to go out. Check for leaks first and then move on from there with diagnostics.

Re: master brake cylinder swap

I'm going to check it out today but I was under the impression that we had a split braking system so that if the front/ rear leaked we would still have two wheels to stop the car.

Re: master brake cylinder swap

I'm not sure how our brake system works, but when I had a leak in one of my rear hoses, I was still able to brake. It can't hurt to check all the brakes anyway.

Re: master brake cylinder swap

Lose of all breaking? How about the brake booster, vacuum leak?

Re: master brake cylinder swap

Jvan,
first check the brake fluid level,
then look for leaks in front of both rear tires.
