Paint code 372

I've just found the 1st rust bubble on my car and decided to have it taken care of ASAP. I though my car was Barcelona Red paint code 372 and the garage painted it with Subaru 372. Went to pick the car up and the painted panel is different to the rest of the car. When I had a look at the pot he'd used for the job the tin says, "Subaru 372 BRIGHT RED." Has my car faded over the last 17 years or are there two different 372 paints?

When painting a portion of an older car is basically assured that whatever the codes say the paint should be are not going to be what the actual state of the car is like. This is where a quality shop would be able to better blend the paint to match the rest of the car.

Re: Paint code 372

Your car is faded and wont match if you panel paint it. You need to blend the surrounding panels to match and get the tint right.

Re: Paint code 372

Barcelona Red is one of the most unstable colors out there. The new paint matched the color when new, not after 20 years of exposure to UV and weather.

Check by getting a little sample of your new paint and matching is against an area of your car not affected by weathering, such as inside your boot lid, where exposure to the elements was protected.

Most quality shops can use a spectrophotometer and color-correct the factory color to match your existing paint, or mix it from scratch.

Re: Paint code 372

Yes, we are going to match the colour to the faded fuel filler cap. I was really just surprised to see the tin say "bright red". I'd heard of the brilliant red but not bright red and was amazed to see it had the same paint code. Just wondered if this was a 372 thing or if the other colours had different names?

Re: Paint code 372

It is not unusually for a paint code number to have a different name in different countries, Bordeaux Pearl : 487 is Crimson Mica as #487 in Australia.
