A few general concerns....
I think I have a little bit of the binding problem... I tried to look out for it when I bought the car, but I didn't really know what I was doing that well (the descriptions I got weren't that accurate oh well)...but... when the wheel is turned pretty far, and I' have to accelerate, like, for example, from a parking lot entrance out onto a street, theres sorta a stutter type feeling/noise. I'm guessing thats 'binding'. What causes this?
Also, between gear RPM flares... I read that the 'flare' in the RPMs is caused bya dirty or bad throttle position sensor... if I recall they're about 150 bucks. How are my chances at cleaning one and putting it back together? Lastly, when I park on a hill so the SVX is pointed upwards (on my mothers driveway) I get in the car, start it, put on the brakes, take OFF the aprking brake, and then put it in reverse. As I'm backing up, like 2 seconds after I start backing up there's a weird noise. It only happens when I park on a steep hill upwards like that. Any ideas? Thanks guys! - Ca$h |

OK... first, that does sound like what binding is. It is caused when the transfer clutches (READ: center diferential) are locked together. This causes perminant 50/50 torque split. The problem with this is all the wheels are spinning the same speed at the same time. because when you go around a corner, the outer wheels need to spin faster to keep up with the inner wheels, it causes this binding.
The shift flares could be normal. The svx is programmed for very smooth shifts which can be mistaken for slipping. Try unplugging the resistor next to the battery (on the inner fender wall) and see if the 'flares' go away. I have no idea about the last prob. Mike |

The last problem is the ABS doing its self test.
It does that every time you start the car and move it, but it is not so noticeable on flat surfaces.

shift flares: The SVX actually turns off one bank of cylinders during each upshift to allow for smoother shifting, this is what you could be noticing.

No, in the general SVX forum SOLARSVX got his transmission replaced, and his mechanic advised him to get a new TPS sensor.... becuase these 'flares' in the RPMS could damage the transmission. Do you remember that? I think Aredub agreed and they both replaced their TPS sensors.

Is this 'ballast' thing in the transmission easy to get to? I'm pretty competent.
