Engine install?

Hey everyone, since my engine is on the out, I have been looking around and I think that I have found a reasonable source for an imported crate motor for my SVX, and I was wondering if anyone knew a reliable place in Northern Minnesota to put in a new engine? I would like to shy away from Hayes Subaru if at all possible, last time I brought my car there they charged me $310 and did NOTHING. Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Not sure quite what i'm buying, I'm under the impression that this provider will build up a stock short block and sell it as a crate motor.... I'll keep you posted when I find out more.

You might want to at least call Foreign Affairs in Duluth. As the name states...they do mostly foreign stuff and are pretty good from what I hear. Don't know what they will want for price, etc.. but it's worth a call at least.

According to the factory manual, removing the engine is only 24 steps. Most of which are draining coolant, disconnecting stuff, etc..
Looks like it could be a DIY operation if you are ambitious.

Hey Crusader

When you decide what you are going to do with replacing your engine, I'd like to talk to you about buying some parts (cylinder head, valve covers, etc) from your other engine.

BTW - R&R the engine isn't that bad. John (svx commuter) and I have both done it and neither of us are mechanics.

Good luck and get the service manuals.

Todd

Oh yeah...

I have the service manuals if you want to take a look at them before attempting (or deciding to attempt) the engine R&R. I'm in Duluth BTW. Just shoot me a PM.

Like Todd..I might be interested in a couple parts off the old engine too, depending on what your new one comes with.

Steve

engine install...

Colorado Componenet recyclers (CCR), have a great reputation and have been around for sometime.

I don't not have any personal experiences with them, but several of my friends have with legacys, Brats etc, and tell me the engines are great, and CCR is hassle free....

CCR is very active on the Ultimate Subaru Message Board...

Before I got a used engine I looked into this. I got a quote from a garage for a Jasper exchange. $5600
