A car that could save the planet—fast

http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/04/tech...2_wrightspeed/

"SAN FRANCISCO (Business 2.0 Magazine) - Ian Wright has a car that blows away a Ferrari 360 Spider and a Porsche Carrera GT in drag races, and whose 0-to-60 acceleration time ranks it among the fastest production autos in the world. In fact, it's second only to the French-made Bugatti Veyron...

The key difference? The Bugatti gets eight miles per gallon. Wright's car? It runs off an electric battery."

Impressive.

Or it would be if it didn't top out at 112mph. More like a glorified go kart.

Still though, it hits top speed in what it takes most of us to get to 60.

Once it adds a stereo, heater, A/C, windows and a roof it may be a good idea but until then it is just a toy with a hell of a lot of batteries.

Yep. Ramp up production at those coal-fired electricity generating plants. Over 60% of US electricity is created through coal plants. Not sure this is really how to save the planet?!

It doesn't, but if everyone had electric cars the air index in town would be infinitely cleaner.

In Alaska during the summer months when we have forever daylight, I could run this car off solar panels for 3 months straight at least.

What gets me is its been 30 years from our last "gas crisis" and nobody really has developed a fuel efficient/alternative car. Im surprised that we didnt learn from the 70's fuel embargo by developing something to make us more energy independent.

Technology is old already but it's still not quite economically feasible. Big Oil is going to milk petrol autos as long as it can, and the government and motor companies will let them.

Alternative fuel cars won't be seriously introduced until there is a real crisis.

Everyone is just biding their time.
